Looking to buy my first road bike. Currently ride 50-75 miles/week on a 1985 Schwinn Prelude 12 speed. I've got a grand to spend. Looks like Fuji, Felt and Scattante(Supergo's brand) are decent buys, probably with Shimano 105. I think I'm gonna buy new from a local store so I can get properly fitted. I don't want to buy the wrong size off the net just to save $200. We've got lots of stores here in So. Cal. Any advice?

This: Go to wrenchscience.com and use their fit wizard to get the proper frame size, stem size, etc. Then save yourself a bundle and order from GVHbikes.com. Give it shot...

Talk to Gary at GVH, He fit me on the phone as if i were in the shop on the fit bike. Awsome deals great price. You can save alot more than 2 bills.

I would recomend staying with the LBS if you have any questions at all about fit and or future maintenance/upgrades...fit is not always simply a matter of arm, leg, or torso length, but also a matter of flexibility and comfort. I would also recomend looking into Raleigh or perhaps Lemond instead of your mentioned brands...you should be able to find an Ultegra equipped bike for that price without too much difficulty, especially if you can come across a 2002 model year or older bike in your size.
