Giant TCR Composite "Team, 0 and 1" Frames Identical?CarbonTi
Mar 8, 2003 11:26 AM
Some of the subversive influences here on this board have pushed me over the edge with some of the bike porn on the Giant TCR Composite. Now I am looking to buy one but don't know yet if I want to build one up from a frameset or buy the complete bike. So to the TCR knowledgeable:

Are all the frames on the complete bikes the same? Is the aero fork only found on the ONCE team bike/frame? Any recommendations on good deals/sources on buying the bike or frame?

These thoughts are coming from a life time Italian bike enthusiast. Madonna del Ghisallo pleaseforgive me.

Appreciate the responses.

They are all the same frame and fork. They just come with different groupsets and wheels. The Giant site has all the info.

BB is English. What kind of detail other than the specs do you need? I'd be happy to help. I haven't gotten many outside miles on her, but ask away.

It is more fun building your own. The frameset costs me 1450.00. My goal was to build a bike that weighs < 6500 grams and cost less < $3500.00. Alas, I did not succeed, the bike weighs a little over 7000 grams as shown and costs >3500.00.
This is the fourth bike that I've built and the second bike I currently own.
Have fun whether you decided to buy the complete bike or the frameset to build your own.

I have a TCR1 with Ultegra grouppo. I calculated that it worked out better value buying the complete bike from my LBS,however, I changed the Mavic Cosmos wheels for a set of Ksyriums. It also depends whether you are happy with the spec components. I was happy with the whole set up, except I use the original Cosmos wheels on my first bike.I live in Taiwan but the US prices are not that much different. The reports on the Giant Composite bikes on this website are all true. Whatever you do, buy one and you wont be disappointed. Great bike!

Where did you get the frame for $1450? (Good choice - the blue accents look great!)

Just out of curiosity, what is your component spec, frame size etc.?
Looks like you're using FSA cranks, but your post, stem (Deda?), bar, BB, seat choices, etc. are hard to make out from the photo.

I bought the frameset(size small) from Cyclo Path in Fresno. William at Wise Cycle Buys gave me the info. Their # is 559-432-2990. I dealt with a guy name Barrett Henson.
The crank is FSA Team Issue, the post is Columbus SLR8R, Stem and bar are Deda Newton, BB is Shimano Dura Ace, Saddle is AX-lightness, Pedals are "Lance's", cable is Nokon, and headset is Cane Creek IS-6. I replace the FSA headset which is equivalent to Cane Creek IS-2 with the IS-6.
