Well I finally did it. I cancelled my trip to this years Tour with two of my friends. I had registered with Steve Bauer for the last week of the Tour with the knowledge that my fiance and I have been actively looking at dates and places to get married. It is tough getting everything to fall into place when planning these things. Well the date for the Isle of Matrimony ended up being one week before I was scheduled to leave for France. I'll be on my honeymoon instead of riding the Alps and following the finish of the 100th TDF. I just knew it would end up happening this way. She said I could still go, but how could I? She would probably remind me for the rest of my life how I took off to France without her one week after we were married. Well I guess I'll have to see LA going for the record next year, God and my wife willing :O)

You couldn't have scheduled the honeymoon in ... France? You couldn't have convinced her that a trip to the Alps, with that rare French air, gourmet food, fine wine, excellent hotels, would be as romantic as, say, Club Med? You couldn't have told her that she could be your personal masseuse?

Oh well. Try to have a good time anyway. :)

BTW, my wife of 22 years told me "you ARE going to France next summer." Some things are better with age! So I'll be atop l'Alpe d'Huez on July 13.

It would have been great to have her come along. She rides too, but not quite at the pace me and the guys would want to go. It also would have cost another $6k and after paying for a wedding, a + $12k honeymoon would be somewhat cost prohibitive. Our week in Nassau will have to do :O)

It wasn't clear to me, are you going this year or next? Will you go with a group tour or on your own? With the wife? I am going next year as long as God is willing 'cause I just told the future Mrs and she didn't complane.

I'm going this year, with a group. Next year, I might try the Giro or the Vuelta.

It's only money!
$12k honeymoon? Cripes man that must be one helluva resort!noveread

Think of all the bike stuff that $18k could have bought! Clearly money is not an issue, go next year. In fact, go over for the Giro and stay on 'til the Tour!

$12k honeymoon? No, no, no!Live Steam

You misunderstand. The Tour trip with Steve Bauer is about $5k per person not including airfare, times 2 will bring it to about $12k with airfare. Way over the top of the budget, especially after paying for a wedding. We are going to Nassau to Sandals Royal Carribean for much, much less than that. Actually the Nassau trip is almost free as they screwed up our reservations last April and gave us 5 days free as compensation. We will add 2 or 3 more days to that. Well it would be nice to be able to splurge $12k on a honeymoon, but not in this lifetime and not in this secular bear market. I'll save my pennies and do the Tour next year, or maybe head to Italy for the Giro.

The call to cancel the Tour trip was a tough one. I have been looking foreward to it since before last years Tour. My friend went last year too, but I wasn't able to get away at that time. But I said I would go this year and booked well in advance of getting shut ot as they only take about 25 with them for each week of the Tour. My buddy Greg is in the photo. It was taken last year. I wanted one of me just like it :O) Only kidding about the pic, but you get the idea.
Hope to be there too!js5280

I should have enough Airline miles by then and maybe even a job to take a vacation from!

Thought you'd enjoy this Mike. . .

Boy, I'm sorry I acted like that. I've been a little "preoccupied" as of late. Yick, I'm embarrased. Well, you have got to be excited, I think you made the right choice, some things will always be more important than a cycling contest no matter how cool (You hear that Lance!!?). Best wishes Livesteam and here's to you making it for TdF #6, wife in tow (She does owe you now). Have a great time.: )

No problem and thanks for the well wishes. I have bad days all the time. They seem to come more frequently as I have not been able to get out for a decent ride, as I guess a lot of us haven't been able to do, without ice, snow, bitter cold and pot holes hampering it. It does take it's toll on my persona.
