I kind of like Thor as well, but I could be a little biased for obvious reasons.

Marco Velo--How could it be anyone else?
Buck Naked ...sacheson
Mar 4, 2003 2:58 PM
... oh, you said bike racer ...

by reputation, I'd say Laurent Jalabert, Johan Museeuw or Sean Kelly.

by really freaking cool name, Magnus Backstedt. Does it get any more gnarly than that?

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Adri Van der Poel sounds pretty cool, and I always loved how Phil Liggett says Mauro Gianetti, and Bo Hamburger gets praise for making me hungry every time he is doing something notable.
Favorite italian cyclist's name? Fabrizio Guidi. (nm)eyebob

not really a favorite but...Akirasho
Mar 4, 2003 3:08 PM
... to hear Phil Ligget spit out Djamolidine Abdoujaparov amidst a ton of other sprinters in a bunch, and never miss a beat is... amazing.

And, as mentioned, Marco Velo is a natural...

Be the bike.

I mean that isn't even remotely humorous. It's such a far reaching off topic attempt at a jab that it makes you look pathetic.

Sven Montgomery (What a strange juxtaposition of nationalities!)
Servais Knarven
Joop Zootemelk
Peter Van Petegem (It just rolls off the tongue.)
Thierry Marie
Tom Steels

...not in any order:
Jörg Jaksche - Phil NEVER gets this one right.
Floyd Landis - now that's a first name!
Tom Steels - just sounds hard.
Serge Baguet - sounds like French bread.
Danilo Hondo - now that's a last name!
David Moncoutie - another fine last name.
Luciano Andre Pagliarini Mendonca - wow!
Andreas Klöden - North German slang for 'testes'.
Unai Osa, Inigo Cuest which some how comes back to me...bent_spoke

phonetically as Indigo Quester, which could be a Batman villian(ala the TV series)... a line might go something like this."Quester..that move was DIABOLICAL! ..WHAM..POW!"

I also like Phil Liggets re-telling of a broadcast he heard of a guy who had to handle a breakaway containing "Belli, Ellie & Lellie". Phil says it was handled with out a hitch which must have been amazing...cycling's version of "who's on first" or the Three Stooges..take your pick
EASY !!!! Fons De Wolf - that cat was all time stylin'Spirito

he could ride too but the pressure of being tagged the next Merckx ate him up. he made it with plenty of chicks too if rumors are true - makes Cippo look like a geek.

heck - he rode a Gios and later for Bianchi - with a name like his im surprised it hasn't been mentioned.

I actually like the name "Lance Armstrong", as it has a certain.jtferraro
Mar 5, 2003 6:29 AM
intimidating sound to it, just as that recent writer of Sports Illustated "Sportsman of the Year" article had said.

Mercx is certainly a fav of mine, too...not to mention all those other, cool European names.

Anyone remember the mid-90s Boure` clothing ads?sacheson

Their token cyclist: Chance Legstrong.

I used to love that play on *the* name.
donno Armstrong sounds like linoleum brandcyclopathic
Mar 5, 2003 6:43 AM
now why would anyone wanna lance it?
Then there's Ned Overend -->sacheson
Mar 5, 2003 6:34 AM
and if you swith the first two letters of his name around, it reads "end over end".

That's pretty cool for a mountain bike racer ... except he rarely went that way. Freaking no good super stud.
