My girlfriend found this pic of Lance while walking....jtferraro
Feb 28, 2003 9:47 PM
...walking home from town a few weeks ago. As you can see, he's running in the Dirty Duathlon. Somebody must have developed this pic on their own and super-imposed that "Dirty Duathlon" sign in the upper left corner. Additionally, they made it look like Lance is behind a fence or something...very strange...don't ask me?! Also...can you see what some JACKASS wrote above Lance? Yes...it says "GAY". Uhhh, OK!! Who knows...maybe some anti-cyclist type found this pic first and added that part?Whoever it was, pretty darn pathetic of them, nonetheless!!

Not trying to be a dick, just the voice of reason here... if you personally think it's pretty darn pathetic of them to do that to the picture, what do you think about your posting it on a public website for the world to see? What does that say about you?

If you are a fan of Lance, you just did more to hurt his rep than whoever put the picture for your girlfriend to find it, and if you don't like Lance, cool, but posting inflammatory pictures on a website is still childish.

Why would you bother to do this if you actually think it is pathetic like you say in your own post? It serves no purpose.

are we all feeling a little on edge lately? OK, everyone, how about a big ol' fu(king group hug.... followed, perhaps by a deep breath and a big ol' fu(king chill pill....

Jeez...

You have a valid point but I didn't post it here just for that reason. I primarily thought it was an interesting pic of him and wanted to share it. Actually, I got zoomed enough in on that 2nd shot as to not display that comment. I'm a huge fan of Lance and I don't think posting it here does any harm or ruins his rep. I'm just posting reality. BTW, I've posted plenty of pics of him from the NYC Grand Prix, too...albeit, none like this. After all, I specified it was found this way and that I thought it was pretty sad and pathetic for somebody to say that about him.

Cool... like I said, my point wasn't to flame you, but to make you think about why you would even post that...
I wasn't trying to make you mad, just make you think... that's all and I hope no harm or hard feelings came out of it.

... it's just a pic...

As for the "inflammatory" remarks on said... with 6 billion people on the planet, I don't think this is a make or break on someone's creativity... or opinions about Lance or cycling (or sports in general).

It could be argued that the pic serves no purpose... but it may take the price of time to tell... that is, in retrospect, this might become an archival remnant of life and times in the first decade of the 21st century...

Now, if it had been pics of me in the bedroom, you'd have all been amazed at my... weeeeelll... endowment... and seeing as how that'd put most of you to shame... that would have served no purpose...

Be the bike.

Don't get all bent about the chain-link...biknben

The adition of the chain-link fence is easily explained. The photo had been blown up against a chain link fence during a rain storm. That's all.
Ah, interesting. You must be a photography guru? (nm)jtferraro

People have done many things far worse to Lance. Some have done much funnier things too. Lance even knows it and doesn't get bent so why get upset at jtferraro for posting the dirty du pic.

(here's a one time at band camp story)

Last year on Ventoux I stumbled onto a group of drunk Germans that had a very funny pic of Lance with the caption "robot, not human!"...in the pic he did look like a robot. After chatting them up they found out I was aquintances with Kevin Livingston. Pretty soon they were handing me cans of coke out of their cooler to hand out to American riders....

(having a nick moment forgive me)

I was lucky enough to have covered the Dirty Du and can say with 100% conviction that Lance was not "gay" that day. I looked really hot and I am sure he would have made a pass at me in order for me to write a more glowing story. I am not sure what publication that pic is from but I think the photog is either Rick Kent or Elizabeth Kruetz.

If your interested in more pics of that day you could purchase online than Elizabeth has a nice website.

(another nick moment)

The report is by local sports reporter Jen Olson who is very nice and interested in getting more coverage regarding cycling in Austin.

You can catch me interviewing one of the other posties when Lance and the boys are running out of the transition area before the race started. I am in a red hat.....

As for my work that day you can see it here....

So does this mean you are Ted Arnold? Good review. Do you live in Austin, or the surrounding area?

Scruff is right...the beauty of print media my friend. In my day to day life I do go as ted arnold "teo" comes from my early mtb racing days where norba had a horrible time getting my race results correct as they always had me as Teo Arnold.

I live in Austin work at LA's hometown Trek dealer and write freelance stuff on the side. Mostly with VeloSnooze but at times others. Looking to have my own site for Letour as this summer will be my fourth straight. I may be working with a local pro photog and it will be her pictures and my words. Kind of like our own showcase--hard busting your ass for a deadline and then publisher waits 4 days to put online.
