Downhill mountain biking is where it's AT!! 40mph on smooth roads is one thing, 40mph on stuff you can't even walk down requires so much more talent!! There's no skill to road riding, big deal, all you need are big lungs, bigger legs and the biggest muscle between your ears!! Try a sport where you actually need control and reflexes, a 4-year-old can follow a white line on the road!! Those brain-dead tour riders are so stupid if one of them missed a turn and rode off a cliff the rest of the pack would follow him! Nick this, nick that, that's like two curling teams arguing over who's got the better sweeper in a freakin' bar!! Nobody cares! Americans like football, baseball and basketball, sports that require some actual MUSCLE REFLEX, not just sitting on a banna-seat pumping away for 2000 miles. Get a life!! And try DH'ing, although you'd better be careful, you actually need some skill for it!!

(c'mon, take the bait, start bashing *someone* other than nick, it's getting tiring. oops, probably shouldn't have thought this out loud...)
you don't happen to be from Michigan, do you? (nm)lonefrontranger

I've always wanted an excuse to either walk or take a chairlift up every hill in encountered.....

Or maybe it was my fixation on dressing up like Darth Vader and riding around the neighborhood......

Ya know that is kind of funny you say that. A guy I use to work with did these insane drops on this big ol Hard tail and DH bike. But yet he thought I was silly cause I like to come down the cannyons at speeds up to 50-60 mphs on those skinny little tires passing cars. To each is there own.

WATCH IT!!! Curling is an OLYMPIC sport!!!!! (nm)serbski

Thanks for the post. It has given me a reason to write about my opinion that the fact that cycling mags that cover road racing also cover Downhill MTB. They have nothing to do with each other. You might as well have a magazine with downhill skiing and snowmobiling. They both incorporate skis which is just as much a connection as DH and Road Racing. I am of the opinion that you ride mtb for training and fun but if you're serious about racing, road racing is where it's at. It looks like more people are starting to believe that, look at all the mtbers switching to road.
wrong: ROAD BIKING is for CARNATIONS!!! (nm)teamsloppy
