Advice for purchase...110carbon w/ultegrabriko51

Recently I've been looking into either a Trek carbon or Giant TCR composite. LBS carries both brands but is waiting to hear back for the availability of the TCR frame...

The '03 5200 seemed like a good deal...i have ridden a few and they are comfy and pretty stiff. I have also ridden a '01 5700 (110carbom w/ultegra) and felt a noticeable difference between the acceleration of that and the 120 frame...

LBS has '03 5200 for $2400 or...
I can do a '03 110 frame thru them with ultegra/ksyriums for $3300...

Is the 3300 a good deal? Honestly I won't be racing that much, but raced on a college team until recently and still love to ride hard...The 110 frame just felt more solid...good price to pay? Thanks
Both are overpriced. No bargains. (nm)jtolleson

I don't think that's a bad deal for the 110. The cheapest I've seen the frameset is $2000. An Ultegra build kit w/Ks wouldn't be a bad deal @ $1300. Added bonus of having the LBS stand behind the bike.

Sounds like a fairly good deal, but for $3,300 I would rather have a 5500, carbon 120 with D/A. I would think you would notice a bigger improvement of D/A over Ultegra vs. 110 over 120.

Thanks for the replies...I have ridden a 5500 (120/DA) but still feel it lagged on the climbs compared to the 5700 (110/ULT)...

the 5700 had Rolf Vector Pro's...5500 had bontager race lite I believe...maybe that was a difference...

For $3300 you can get the 110 with DA and and Open Pro/DA wheelset. The upgrade to Ks will run you about $300. I built up a very similar bike a few months ago and have all of the info. Shoot me an email and I can give you the run down.
