Anyone use knickers for cool weather riding? Are the Nashbar knickers any good? What brands are nice, and are not too much? Are there any specific road shorts? Or are biking shorts biking shorts?

You want to keep the knees warm and covered in the cooler weather. I don't know any thing about nashbar knickers, but i use santini, etxe-ondo, and several other brands of knickers. I suggest nalini knickers at a good price at I bought a couple and they are good quality for the price. Santini, assos, and etxe-ondo,castelli, are more expensive, the major difference being quality of the pad.

You can use knee warmers also, i have several, but if the weather is cold enough you will have warm knees and a cold rear and cold hamstrings, not good. I only use the kneewarmers on slightly cold days were bibs are warm enough, but then again they make knickers in different thicknesses for this reason. Your choice.

Save your money and just get a pair of knee warmers. The area just above your knees will be even warmer than with knickers because you will have two layers of lycra covering them.

Two the most valuable items that I own for cycling are my knee warmers and arm warmers. You can get both of them for less than a pair of knickers.

Buy the knee warmers and go to a sports store and buy a pair of cheap lycra shorts, no padding, just lycra. I have been riding in that outfit down to 25 or so. The extra layer of lycra keeps the butts and nuts warm, and you can get lycra shorts anywhere for $10-20.

knickers are great to me. They never slide down and you don't get that irratation of the band on your thigh. In really cold weather I like to wear the knickers under tights to keep my knees toasty. I never found any nashbar shorts i liked, but the Performance Elite are good as well as most of the Euro stuff.

Yes, and I disagree with those who say to just get knee warmers. I use knickers in all but the hottest weather, not just because it keeps the knee warm, and protected from debris and scrapes if you go down, but it keeps your dang shorts from riding up the leg, too.

I also mountain bike, and the knickers really help preserve your knees. I love knickers, yeh!

I just got some Nashbar knickers, and I don't like them because there are no grippers on the legs. I do like the Voler and Canari and Sugoi too, although one of the last two doesn't have a waist cord, so you rely on stretchy properties.

Santini or Voler have nice knicks. I like the Santini better, pad and fabric seem better. or
