LOOK vs. SPD-R(4 posts)

LOOK vs. SPD-Rhobbes
Feb 20, 2003 4:25 PM
I just recently bought my first pair of "real" road shoes (Nike Hautacam) and its time to upgrade to a road pedal too. I have looked at various options and I have narrowed my choices down to:

LOOK PP247
Shimano SPD-R535 or maybe Ultegra 6601

I like the idea of the three-bolt attachment of the LOOKs, but the SPD-R is attractive too bc of the lighter weight. Whats your vote? Thanks

I currently use Ultegra 6601. It takes a little getting used to it and have no problems after that. Wide platform, good float and (to a certain extent) variable "Q" factor. You just have to take into consideration that this was designed for racing (spd-"R"). Meaning, it was designed to be tight to prevent accidental clip outs during sprints. Hence, I won't quickly recommend this if this is your first clipless pedals, as most new users have a tough time getting used to it. However, if you think you can get over this learning curve without hurting yourself, then go for it.

Good Luck,

W.
