I'm into that Nirvanna (sp?) and awakening know...finding enlightenment and all that. Buddhist munks talk about this state you will be in when you find enlightenment...where the present moment will consume all of your thoughts...where the past and future will lose importance and meaning...where life and everything in it will "make sense." It's something that words and human language cannot convey what it is...but once that person finds "it"...they will without a doubt know what "it" is.

I thought I had finally found "it" a couple of years back...early in the day, I did a 40 mile road bike ride...than at the end of the ride I still felt I decided after the road ride to go do another 20 mile mtb ride in the woods...if you are like me...when it comes to mtb riding there is no such thing as a zone 1 or 2 ride when you do mtb...because if you are...the bugs are gonna eat you alive and walking would be when you want to go fast on an mtb, you are pretty much aneaeroic the whole time.

After I finished the ride, I always listen specific music to top off the ride on the way back home...all of a sudden while driving...this incredible high hit me like a ton of was like coming after you know what...but it was much more body felt numb and totally relaxed in an instant...I can't describe it...I have never felt this sensation before...I don't even think crack heads get a better high than what I just many things were bothering me at that point in my life and for a short moment, none of it mattered, I really was "in the moment"...there was no what's gonna happen tomorrow or what I could've done different was just the "now."

I haven't experienced this sensation since then...must've been a momentary bliss thing. I wish I could experience this feeling everytime I go riding...but most of the time, the satisfaction of a good fast ride is all the reward I get.

Any of you guys ever experience this and how often?

often after a hard run. never after a hard ride. perhaps i'm not riding hard enough. seems i really have to reach that **low** during the run to get that high after, though.

You scare me- talking about a ride "a couple years back" ;)

endorphins are great- I typically get a high out of riding that I do not get from other forms of cardio- but a high is false enlightenment (not unlike "not so legal" forms of "high" where the dumbest thing available appears to be profound).

Back when I was a runner, I would occasionally experience a "runner's high," similar to what you described, usually during long runs. I haven't experienced that sort of high while cycling, but I do find that cycling puts me in a pleasant calm mood for several hours afterwards. Doesn't seem to matter how long I ride. I also tend to get cranky when I'm unable to ride due to work or crappy weather like we've had so much of this winter. That's one reason why my wife puts up with the amount of time I spend cycling, because I'm in a lot better mood when I'm able to ride.
