Carbon, aluminum, ti or steel and which make/model for about $1000? Needs to be a good climber.

Gios are very good climbing bikes due to their short top tube and are fairly reasonable in price. I think Excel has the aluminum ones on sale now for around $500 or so

do you have to carry your descending bike up with you? If so, it probably doesn't matter what frame gets you to the top if you have that extra 25 lbs on your back. I climb and descend on a Serotta steel, very nice !

Let's look at this a little differently: What's a bad, or even average, climbing frame for $1000? And what characteristics are you claiming a frame should have to be "a good climber"?
