Unfortunately, I work at one of the shops, so don't want to present biased info. However, I can say that there are only two in town--Indian Cycle Fitness & Outdoor and The Bike Rack. Either should be able to take care of you. J's suggestion to check with JMC (tough there too-I'm the VP) and local riders is good as well.

Thanks guys, I passed this thread to a buddy in Jackson area.

JS Haiku Shoppe, I have relatives east of Memphis (about 60 miles) in Middleton. When I go it is usually for a week and I try to ride at least 2 or 3 times, but I find the roads to be a major intimidator. None of the roads have shoulders (or even a white line on the right edge of the road), cars drive fast and you never see an adult cyclist out in that area, about the only time I feel comfortable is very early on a Sunday morning. Hope your area is more conducive to cycling.

your relatves in middleton are 80 miles SE of me, but only 15 miles south of bolivar. some of my rides travel up highway 64 (or parallel side roads) to the bolivar area, and back. one way it's 50-60 miles, and 64 is bike route with full shoulder both ways (though debris strewn and bordering a 4-lane highway). i don't know much about middleton, but suspect you might find friendlier roads if you found a middleton-area rider to show you around.

otherwise, drop me a line before you're in the area and maybe we can meet halfway for a ride.

Can you recommend a modestly priced motel that
is convenient to the end of the Trace in Clinton
there? We have a group meeting in Natchez and
riding to Jackson/Clinton next weekend. We plan
on riding up Saturday, pounding down a few cold
ones, crashing a motel, then riding back Sunday.
Despite the planned Saturday night activities,
we're going to go ahead and calling it a
"training" ride.

The map is a little iffy, and I don't want to lead
my compadres onto some sort of interstate-highway-of
death-road at the end of a century to get to a motel.
Avoiding areas where folks shoot at each other would
be nice, too. Not bagging on the area, I just don't
know anything about it.

Thanks in advance for any info!
