I have a new (02') bike coming with 105. I'm selling a 99' bike with Ultegra (w/ 01' shifters). Which would YOU keep?? Why??

I think the 105 finish was redone for 2003. Now it comes in black or a new silver.

The 2002 105 in the "old" silver looks sharp as well.

Which one are you getting?

It's on new 02' bike so I'm certain it wouldn't be 03'.

Does your Ultegra have lots of wear? You could have the best of both worlds and put the Ultegra on your favorite frame.

I don't comment on 105 vs. Ultegra debates (do a search and there are plenty of opinions). But subjectively, I like the finish on Ultegra. A nice nearly colorless finish that looks real nice on bare brushed titanium as well as polished and painted framesets.

Ultegra components are slightly better (better chainrings, better der pivots, pulleys; stainless steel FD cage vs chromed; lighter cass, brakes, BB, shifters etc.

Really depends on how worn Ultegra is, how much work you willing to put to swap components. FD may not be transferable if seat tube diff size or braze on. BB might be hard to pull out.

Second how much more you get for old bike with brand new 105 vs used ultegra.

Personally I'd keep Ultegra it is more durable. If not full maybe just swap derailleurs, brakes, shifters and cass/chainrings.
