Why don't everyone place mock bids on it and drive the bidding up to an outrageous amount and then 24 hours before the auction is up, then go back and retract your bid.

Let's have some twisted fun with this fool!
Hmm, includes used bike shorts too! nmSpunout

1) A long rambling dissertation that wasn't worth reading.
2) Seller claims its a 7+ year old bike that was ridden 150 miles.
3) Includes used gloves and shorts.
4) Starts at $7,000?

I hope a bidding war doesn't start.
my prediction: zero (legitimate) bids nmDougSloan

spend all your time discussing the beauty and quality of the frame and then show a bunch of pictures of the components... and then ask $7,000.
almost as bad as that guy with the crashed track frame! ; ) nmyodlebike

Its hardly surprising that despite the bike weighing 20lbs the final package as delivered will weigh around 50lbs, it probably comes with reams of ramblings about the world famous Mondonico and the fascinating history of 'PEARL IZUMI TECH GLOVES AND BIKING SHORTS'

At the end of the frame building lecture he has the nerve to add 'The discerning buyer will not be swayed by needless hype' Damn right he won't!!!!

Can someone who is registered with Ebay please contact him direct and ask him what it is that makes it worth $6900!?

Extremely rare left-handed SINGLE SPEED bicycle

The creation of the master puppeteer Jim Henson, Kermit the Frog is recognized worldwide as the star of the children's public television program Sesame Street. The classic Muppet. He is the frog that the muppets look up to for guidance and decision-making. He is a Renaissance frog in that he can fly spaceships, play the banjo, ride a 10-speed bicycle, be a TV reporter and so much more. Longtime star of both television and film with a hit song to his credit ("It's Not Easy Being Green"), Kermit is an irresistible, savvy little guy - albeit one with rather strange taste in females. As Bugs is at Warner Brothers, Kermit comes through as the undisputed headliner and leader of Henson's lively and imaginative Muppet crew. His simple design belies his status as the basic, classic Muppet he is; as though that creative bunch of "Muppeteers" are saying - this is where it all started - what we basically are about. Kermit can be seen in the Smithsonian, appearing in 1979 for an exhibition in honor of the show's tenth anniversary. In 1994 Jim Henson Productions converted the loan to a gift, making Kermit a permanent member of the popular culture collection. The frame is 18 cm c-to-c and weighs only 12 lbs. Hmm. Couldn't you take any fixed gear and switch it to left side drive? Might only work with platform pedals, though.

so I sent the seller an e-mail. It is reprinted below. I will let you know if/when I hear back.

E-mail text:

"Did you really mean to start this auction at $6999.99 or $699.99? If the starting price really is $6999.99 what on earth makes it worth anything close to that?"

jhr

PS- I think $699.99 might even be a little high for the bike.
Couldn't resist that is..(nm)jhr

That is the same response I recieved from him after trading several emails back and forth. Apparently I have been reported twice to Ebay.

below is the exchange between he and I:

ME:
Isn't $6,999 a very high starting price????

HIM:
please look at all the extras, that year 1996, my frame was rated No 1 by Bicycling magazine. I have all top components on my bike , only 100 miles. where are u located,in U.S., I am also showing my bike to the rest of the world, so I can ask for whatever I would like......are you interested in it???? at what price????? thanks for your unsolicited comments.......

ME:
I didn't mean to upset you. It seemed a bit high. That kind of money can get you a couple of the best bikes built today plus the extras you have listed.
This is what others are saying about your auction:

http://forums.consumerreview.com/crforum?viewall@@.efc44f9

HIM:
sir thank you for the link, it is my property and I can sell it at any price I want, your friends at roadbike, are threatening to enter false bids, i have contacted ebay about this. If someone wants a mondonico they will pay my price, maybe not in wisconsin, but maybe in a foreign country, where everything is expensive. if u think my bike is too expensive please do not look or bid at my listing, this is america. I can do what i want richard

ME:
I agree you can sell it at any price you want. I am not responsible for the bids of others false or otherwise. I personally wouldn't bid on something that I didn't want or couldn't afford.
Good luck with the auction.

HIM:
thank you for the good wishes and the link to roadbike, but I am not going to let it bother me. where are u located Richard

ME:
I am in Cleveland, Ohio.
Is that your bike?

HIM:
yes,my bike ridden 150 miles

ME:
Why are you getting rid of it?

Him:
I OWN TWO OF THEM

Me:
then why are you getting rid of the shorts, pumps, and tools?

HIM:
ARE WE PLAYING GAMES HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ME:
No, I am truely curious. Why would you have two of these bikes? Why do you think it is worth almost $7000???

HIM:
THIS IS SPAMMING,REPORTED U TO EBAY

ME:
I was asking a legitimate question about why you are selling this bike and why it is starting at $6999. You didn't truthfully answer.
If you had two of these bikes why would you sell all the accessories/clothes/tools that could be used for the other one?
Why does the auction say that you have 150 miles on the bike and your email to me said you have 100 miles? Which one is it???
You have been slightly less than 100% honest.

HIM:

Yeah, I am really worried! :)
LOL. The "Save the Morons" fund must have dried up. He needs to raise money somehow.Kristin
Feb 12, 2003 9:08 AM
EBay seems to be the income for choice for morons and crooks alike. Lets watch the auction and see who wins the Darwin award for this one.

I could purchase a brand spanking new custom built frame that weighs 17lbs with all the best components and have it fitted by Charmicheal himself for around $6000... or I could purchase this jokers bike for $7000. Decisions...decisions...decisions...
He doesn't even post the size! nmSpunout

He doesn't even post the size! nmRob Sal
Feb 12, 2003 10:42 AM
LOL..Why would you want to know the size before parting with (at least) $7000!? Next you'll be asking for the crank length, handlebar width, stem length and the number of teeth on the chainrings and cassette!!

He stated his shorts are medium size, how much more specific do you want him to be!:)

Give the guy a break, he's cut and pasted the entire history of Mondonico for you!!
