Help...sore nipples......ParticleMan
Feb 9, 2003 6:07 PM
Seriously..this is just happening now, never before. After a while riding, I get sore nipples, which can feel a bit painful at times. Kinda wierd, its only when I ride, and also with different jerseys, etc. I remember once an article in a magazine on this, but could not recall anythng more. Anyone has any help, advise, or experience? By the way, I am a 30 years old Male. Thanks....Ouch

Untill I started wearing silk undershirts I was having the same problem. NipGuards worked great, so do silk undershirts. Now I only use them if it is too hot for an undershirt.

If you have not already tried it, go for a tighter-fitting undershirt in a synthetic material, and avoid cotton.

thanks for the advise...but its very hot tropical and humid weather here in Singapore, all year. So, no one really rides with an undershirt, just jersey and bibs. In fact, no LBS stocks undershirts as well, as theres no demand for it.

But anyone knows why this happens? I never had this problem before.

Try a DeFeet Un-D-Shurt. I had the same problem and years ago I got one of these. Now I have three so one is always clean and they do a good job.

It's designed as a base layer to keep you warm in cool weather and cool in hot weather but I got it for the nip-soothing features.

Also, here in South Carolina, USA, it gets pretty warm too. I find in the summer I'm more comfortable with the Un-D-Shurt than without. I guess it absorbs more sweat or something.

Maybe a reaction to laundry detergent? Try double rinsing.

I hope you appreciate the restraint used on this end in not tossing out any one of about twenty quips that came to mind!

Sounds painful, hope you get it cleared up...

Vaseline - simple, cheap and no hassle.

I trick learnt from years of playing rugby etc. in rough jerseys and cold weather.

I have the same problem, but only when running and mtn. biking (it's the jiggling that does it ...). I used to use those small round bandaids, until I realized it's overkill. All you need is some first-aid tape, preferably the clear plastic kind on dispenser rolls, 1/2" wide. Just tear off about an inch, fold over the ends slightly (makes it easier to remove) and apply over each nipple. For this or bandaids you must apply before you start sweating though.

Use vaseline as other posters have suggested, if you want ugly oil stains on all your jerseys that will never come out....

That would be difficult to explain. I wonder if they just stitched it back on?

I used to get my rubbed so bad on long rides that they would actually bleed. Then I picked up some BodyGlide and it has not happened since. I can not recommend the stuff highly enough.
