I blame a few rainy, cold days and a knee problem. Otherwise I have no excuses! Febuary hasn't gotten off to a great start either.

"I'll make it up next week" is what I keep telling myself.

82 road miles (2 days early on that were nice)
432 trainer miles (kurt kinetic road machine)

Other than one fairly nice week earlier in the month, the weather has been nasty in MN. Today it's 8 with a wind chill of -3 with no end in sight...

53 hours of on bike time. The weather has been very accomadating for riding outside. I've been getting night rides in also. I've been hoping to be ready for a race in Phoenix next week.

I'm not really concerned about getting burned out, I've been taking rest weeks and I figure I won't want to ride much during the drought induced fires that will start by mid Jone here in the Rockies.

367 -- not bad considering the weathertarwheel
Feb 6, 2003 12:04 PM
Through Jan. 31, I rode 367 miles in 23 hours -- not too bad considering the cold weather, a snowstorm, and trips that had me out of town 2 weekends with no bike. February is off to a good start, with 115 miles in first 5 days. YTD -- 482 miles in 30 hours of riding. Last year, I was able to ride 550 miles in January, with a snowstorm that screwed up roads for a week.

8 measley miles.

But 30 in February so far!!

Beyond outside miles...in January...

8 spinning sessions @ 1 hour each
5-8 roller sessions @ 45 minutes. Borrrrrrring
Lifting weights 2-3x per week.

Plans/Goals:

4000m for the year
1000m by May 10th 'cause I have a double century mother's day weekend
2000m by 6/30 since I will be spending the following week in the Blue Ridge Mountains riding.

Drop my winter weight (due to eating and lifting weights) and hit the 180-185lb range. That's skinny for my 6'1" frame. I'll never be one of those 165lb mountain goats. In college, I ran track (sprinter @ Vanderbilt) at 170lbs. I was SO skinny and malnourished.

Oh yeah...to emulate rightsaidfred's "riding habbits" or is it habits..but I digress

will this be your first double?
double was a misnomerPaulCL
Feb 6, 2003 12:49 PM
Sorry...

More appropriatley: a back to back century weekend. 100 on Saturday, 100 on Sunday. I've never done a real double.

Religion ...hmmm. I do most of my long rides early Sunday mornings while my wife and kids are at church. So, cycling must be a religion for me too. Just don't use that term around my wife...I get enough s**t about my "mistress" as is.

Feb 6, 2003 12:53 PM
century days back to back may be more difficult than a "real" double, in fact. i'm not so sure i'd be as happy to get back on the bike the next day. then again, i might sing a different song in june.

now, as for monsters like do(u)g, who ride double doubles in a row, plus a fifth century just for grins, without stopping (and fast, too!)...well,...that 508 is still heavy on my mind.

...one day...
the next dayPaulCL
Feb 6, 2003 1:13 PM
Every time I do some sort of back to back long rides, I always ride better day 2 than 1. funny, I guess.

Last year, my friends and I rode the 1st day century in about 5.25 hours But on day 2, we flew in at just under 4 1/2 hours. The problem with the first day was my cramping due to not enough water intake.

As for Doug and MB1 and their exploits...I don't know if I even want to get that extreme. I would be afraid it would take the enjoyment out of cycling.
