Will those bike racks on the bus damage my road bike? I'm mostly worried about the torque on the wheels - seems like it could cause some dishing or truing problems. Anybody know?

Thanks

I thought those things on the buses were the coolest things...but I sure as hell wouldn't put my expensive bikes on those things...not enough care is evident...looks too feeble and my bike is destined to get scratches and such.
Got 'em here... no worriesjtolleson

Assuming they work the same as the ones in Colorado, where you just rotate an arm up over the wheel/tire (and the bike sits in a tray), I can't see how it would torque anything. No more force applied than the weight of the bike bouncing and swaying.

If it is a double tray you do have to worry about another bozo scratching your ride, but that's pretty much it. (And it is DIRTY!)
We've got em too, I wouldn't expect any damage.Scot_Gore

Ours look like this. Sounds like JT's town has the same type. I think these are funded with Federal dollars, if your town dosn't have em, shame on your transit authority. Give em a call.

They've got a hitch version too. They seem well made and easy to use.

I've used them on buses. Easiest thing in the world and completely solid. I just wish I could afford them for my car. In my opinion, they are the best racks on the market. Bar none.

Then they never put them on any buses. They are in the process of removing as many of the bike lanes as they suposedly put in too! 99.99% of the bike lanes were just restriped shoulders anyway, complete with trash and potholes. Thats what we get for electing a mayor who was a sorry Houston police chief and worse one for NYC. He was even Clinton's drug Czar for a while. I often wonder how they can get away with accepting the federal dollars and not doing the work. Its not like this was Podunk, Oklahoma, this is the 4th largest city in the USA for God's sake. Sorry for the rant...
Rant well understood!Tig

I heard that METRO doesn't allow bikes on buses (in the baggage compartment underneath) anymore. I miss our ol' mayor Bob Lanier.
Ottawa has 'em, shortens commute at -20C. Great cross-region.nmSpunout
