|Sunday ride in Maritime Alps. We started from Col de Tende, descended on the E74 towards the coast, before Breil we turned left to climb Col de Brouis, then descended towards Sospel then just before it turned left towards the E74, a small climb. From Fanghetto it was always north towards the Col de Tende where our car awaited us on the French side of the tunnel.
Pictures were taken with a mobile telephone digital camera so the quality is not the best.

|Driving along. We drove from Turin/Italy. Drove up to Col de Tende first. Bicycle traffic is not allowed in this particular tunel, so we left the car on the French side.|

|hmmm, mountains, the stuff you don't find in Chicago|

|Ladies and gentleman, let me introduce you to a new sport, SnowCycling! Our base camp, just outside the tunnel.
My ride, a Scapin steel frame with Centaur. I made a mistake I brought 13-26 cassette, should have put on an extra 13-29 cassette I have, instead...

|Nuts! why would anyone want to drive up here to go skiing? If it is warm enough for skicycling! The car is just about to turn into the col del tende tunnel, once on the other side - italian side, there is the skiing side, this side -the french side doesn't have skiing here, it is too warm -(proximity to the Mediterranean?)|

|Sergio is surging forward, the ever present glare, the funky structure is a rail bridge not a roman aqueduct.
Last picture. Soon after this the road got steeper and the sun became covered by the mountains making it gray and cold. The surounding snow from then on made it feel even colder.
|Nice Pictures. Please tell me you're not from Chicago?||Kristin|

|If you are, how ever did you train for a ride like that in a place like this? Do tell. Inquiring minds want to know. Very nice.|

|It all depends on how you look at it.
I lived there then I did a job transfer to Italy. Have friends and family in Chicago, of course, but now I reside in Torino.

|I am fortunate enough to have this area in my backyard so to speak. But nowdays I am thinking of making a 3-4 days tour in the Rockies when I go visit the family in Chicago this summer.
After all, with 6 weeks of vacation you have to allocate the time off very wisely... (-:
