Anybody else see the commercial during Xgames?speedisgood

ESPN is airing this commercial for some "extreme" deoderant and in it some rasta-type extreme dudes pull a thick rubberband across the road as cyclists approach during the final sprint. They somehow don't see it and hit it, and get launched backwards into farmland and pig stys. The commmercial finishes with the extreme guys sweatin' it out as the leftover cyclists RUN after the guys (presumably running in cycling shoes is easier than riding after the perps.)

Hahahaha, good fun at the expense of cyclists. It shows how easy it is to target cyclists (cycling, obviously, NOT an extreme sport) and get away with things. After all, we're all timid endurance athletes without upper body mass, right? Personally, I would've liked the commercial ending with the cyclists catching and beating the snot out of the guys with their pumps and helmets. But that's just me.

Anybody else a little annoyed with this portrayal or am I just feeling a little sensitive and insecure?

i noticed the commercial as well and just thought, there's no way they'd be running in their cycling shoes. that's all i thought though as it wasn't offensive in the least. let face it though, in even hipper urban areas, you're going to run across people who see a group of folks decked out in lycra and think "dat dare is a pansy, he, he". people are just ignorant, but i don't know why a cyclist would ever waste a moment worrying about it.

I've seen that commercial for months and have always thought it was just a stupid commercial: no more or less stupid than most of the rest of the commercials out there. I am, however, surprised that it took so long for some cyclist here to express annoyance, disgust, sensitivity, or some other negative sentiment about the commercial. I was half expecting someone to suggest a boycott of the deodorant because it makes light of someone assaulting cyclists. It's just a dumb commercial.

this reminds me of the big squawk about the "twins" commercial from the SuperBowl, as well as about the "dead parakeet" commercial.

Sometimes I think people must just be LOOKING for something to get upset about.

No offence but I think its the time of month when your looking to get upset.

Just kidding.

Now I don't like that commercial cus I think its stupid (and unrealistic)... but I think lots are stupid and unrealistic. It's advertising... some of the most annoying commercials are still in my head. Its not like they are using a pellet gun to shoot cyclists giving people an idea how to hurt cyclists. And hey they are showing people are sport!
