|K so its track cycling. But the Winnipeg 2010 Commonwealth Games bid is excluding track cycling. I wasn't aware it was possible to pick and choose what sports will compete at a Commonwealth Games. And wanting to be there I'm also very upset that it ends up being track cycling.
Theres a petition here:

|That's really lame that they would do that. How come it was excluded? Maybe it would cost too much to build a new velodrome or something?
I know in rowing they're cutting categories to make the same number of categories for both male and female. Apparently because there wasn't enough females in the lightweight doubles races, they scraped the males race as well, which is a very competitive field in which many rowers specialize. It's pretty sad. I don't know if that made it as high as Commonwealth and Olympic competition, but lots of the major regattas in north america have started doing that.

|Its one thing to cut events in a sport let alone cut an entire sport out. Must be the harsh winter they are having.
|Good call on the brain freezing. Damn Winterpeg. nm||empacher6seat|

|Are u sure winnipeg is the city bidding for the games bro?
I thought it was Hamilton.
In anyway, the Manitoba cycling association is run very poorly. They need a new director: I nominate Matt Gemmel!
Bring back LaRiviere and Roseisle already. And why is there a cup series for xc but none for rr?
|Your right its Hamilton... then road cup series||PODIUMBOUNDdotCA|

|My mistake. Its Hamilton and not Winnipeg. Either way its a fricking idiotic bid if they are asking to cut out a sport completely. With a rigada your cutting out events not the sport so its not good but its not nearly as bad either.
As for the road cup series I'd say theres a couple factors:
1) attendance - there was a track cup series in Bromont and Calgary 2 years ago that noone from the other side of the country came to. I was there just because I was coming from Nationals training in Bromont until I went to Trexlertown. Apply that to road where if you want good competition you'll travel to the states or Europe and ride with the seniors if your a junior or just in a higher class. Even if you did travel the 2 hot spots from which most road riders come from are BC and Quebec... same as Alberta and to a lesser degree Quebec are the 2 track hot spots. If I wanted to race them prior to nationals I'd just go out there.
2) sponsors - theres no sponsors in Canada to support such an event. So even if you did have the people to come the finances to run it would be too hard. They have a hard time closing roads for fricking nationals.
The main reason the xc cup thrives is because is because xc is about 10 times as popular as road if not more. Theres sponsors to run it and people will go to that and not travel.
