Getting rust off steel fork threads(3 posts)

Getting rust off steel fork threadsPODIUMBOUNDdotCA

So anyway I had a track frame sitting around for about a year unused (probly more) and when I took the fork out the threads on the (threaded) fork had a bit of rust then since its a steel frame theres some rust in there. How can I take this off?

Thanks,
Nick

Go to the hardware store and get a can of naval jelly (yes, that's what it's called). You just brush it on the rusted areas, let it sit for a while, and then wash it off. Dry the fork and lightly oil it.

Grease the threads and then run a head set lock nut up and down a few times. Wipe everything clean, and if needed do it again. You'll remove the rust and leave a nice thin layer of grease on everything (like you should have when the fork was first installed). You can use something like Naval Jelly, but there is no need to.
