Anyone try on the new Carnacs w/laces and straps?Alex-in-Evanston

My feet have jumped a half size in the past two years rendering my beloved Ellipses too tight. I was wondering if anybody had tried on the new Matrix or other Carnacs with the funky lace up + straps.

I have had my Carnac Legends for about 5 years. I have never put the laces into them sometimes with they didn't have the extra "stuff" in there. If you do use the laces, it is difficult to open them enough to tie the laces. Without the laces, sometimes the tongue and the extra flaps need to be straightened so there aren't any ridges pressing on your foot. All that said, I really like the feel of the shoes since my foot is a little wider than the Italian shoe manufacturers recognize. When I do replace these shoes, I will look at the new Carnacs first and will select the model without laces.

Their original shoe, the Legend (which I have 2 pairs of) has laces and straps. They market them as being able to achieve a "custom fit", but they don't fit any better or worse than shoes without laces.

The toe box in the Legend is wider, making it a comfortable shoe if you have wide feet.
Does anyone know what model replaces the Legend? (NM)Mariowannabe

I'm pissed at Carnac. The Legend was their best selling shoe. People who wore them swore by them. The Legend was the choice for people with wide feet. They had a pretty good hold on the wide-foot market. Now, people with wide feet will take their money to Sidi Mega or Northwave Evolutions to find something close to the same fit. Carnac basically said, "We don't give a shit about customer loyalty, we're jumping on the 18-strap bandwagon." Now they come up with a glitzy website that gives no useful information.
Tried 'em, they're nice, but not unique...CJ838

I'll stick with my trusty Sidi Genius 4's. The Carnac's are very nice, but for the money difference, I did not feel any significant fit comfort.

I tried the new Platinum that takes over for the old Legend. It has three straps and laces. The shoe wasn't a good fit for me so I sent them back. I was bummed out, the shoe is so well made. They have a new insole that comes with them and has an arch support that is paddad, best insole I have ever seen in a cycling shoe.
Perhaps the Quartz "wide" version?Eric_H

For 2003, Carnac is supposed to be making the Quartz in a special wide version. The fit might be closer to the Legend, but I'm just guessing. They will have the "Conformable" insole, and it is very comfy. I have the regular Quartz and they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn - no hot spots on the bottom of my feet, or pressure points on top. I only wish they were a little lighter.
