Time for another Colorado Cyclist Catalog Cover DebateFez

Saw the new Catalog the other day.

Reminds me of last year's spring catalog, but a little different. From the looks of the cover, they have decided to go a little less on the "T" and more on the "A."

Oh well, I guess it sells.

I would put those clothes onKristin
Jan 27, 2003 6:34 AM
If only Colorado Cyclist knew where I could get them. (My guess is that they came from models own closet; in which case, I don't want them.) I think the next issue should feature all of the models with their own bike clothes, bikes and accessories. At least when I get the Vitoria's Secret catalog I know I can actually buy the stuff. ;)
The clothes are real cycling gear....Niwot

... usually stuff that CC sells in their catalog. The models are reportedly local cyclists and usually CC employees. When this topic came up last year, due to an even more eye-catching cover photo, it was said that the cover model (the same woman who is on this month's cover, I think) is an amateur cyclist in Colorado who is married and works part-time at CC.
Bzzzzzt! Sorry, try againKristin

ALMOST everying in their catalog is for sale. But the cover model and her clothes are not. Also none of the male models are for sale either. (Hey, its not a crime to ask!) Last year, while we were having this discussion, I called CC and asked about buying those skimpy velvet shorts that the sexy cover model was wearing. Now answer me this...was I able to buy those from CC?

Hey, I'm not miffed that I can't buy the clothes. But if they're gonna sell sex, they ought to at least offer the models...don't you think??
why would you want HER cloth? or the cover model? 8-?cyclopathic

Offer the models?Niwot

CC should offer the models for sale, just because they're in the catalog with the clothes and the bikes?

By that logic, ABC should put Jennifer Garner for sale just because she's on "Alias".

Not saying it's a bad idea ;) but don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen.
actually, the model's outfit *IS* in the catalogJS Haiku Shop

couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about until i received the catalog yesterday. her top & shorts are sold on the same page *in that catalog*.

on a related note, i showed my wife the cover very briefly and asked her what she thinks they sell. she said "ass".
If thats true, then I'll eat my wordsKristin

Last year, I know they didn't sell the clothes the model was wearing because I asked. I assumed the same this year because the shorts and top aren't available on the website. I don't get the catalog in the mail anymore.
No, just place an order for the outfit.Fez

And make sure you get the sunglasses and helmet, because that's what I noticed first, along with her smile.

... and in that respect, just like any commercial, whether you like it or hate it... it gets a response.

Demographically, we know who gets CC's catalogs and therefore who you'd target... and let's be honest... for many of the single male (and a few female) members of the forum... it's our fantasy dream come true (oh, if only she were mine... and rides a bike too).

As backsides go... I've seen... better (course, I've seen much worse too)!

Be the bike.

BTW... since I went to the site to get the pic... might as well... browse...
Colorado Cyclist needs it....Niwot

Years ago, CC used to lure people in because they had a glossy, well-produced catalog when no one else did, and they had prices far lower than LBSes, who at the time were the only competition.

Now lots of competitors have catalogs, and everyone has websites. CC's prices are still lower than LBS prices, but if you're looking for the lowest price and you have internet access, you can easily get lower prices on many items. The CC price is a good benchmark if you're looking for lower prices on the internet, but that can't be much consolation to CC when they see sales siphoned off by no-name internet operators.

So CC needs to attract attention in other ways. Obviously they have found a way.
Low Prices?!Fez
Jan 27, 2003 6:26 AM
Colorado Cyclist charges full retail for just about everything. How can that be lower than an LBS, unless LBS actually charges more than full retail?

Their end of season sales are usually hit or miss because of low stock.

The only thing they have good prices on are bike build kits, and the flexibility to customize for your size and gearing. Their clearance bikes are a good deal as well, although they never let you substitute for the parts you don't like, so upgrading usually erases most of the savings.

I think they have good selection, but if I want low prices I would look elsewhere.
You must not visit many LBSes....Niwot

Your average LBS charges substantially more than CC for everything from bar tape to tires to saddles to Cytomax, i.e., all the accessories and "stuff" you buy on a regular basis if you ride a lot. I think I posted on this board a couple of weeks ago that I was recently in a LBS that charges $99.99 for a Flite Ti saddle. That would run you about $59, IIRC, from CC or Excel. Other local LBSes will charge you $17 for the same Cinelli cork tape you can get for $11 from CC or Excel.

That is where CC and Excel get a lot of business, from sales of stuff like that where their prices are much lower than LBSes. And it's the same kind of stuff where some no-name internet operations now undercut CC or Excel by 50 cents or a dollar on items like that. Thus, the attractive female cyclists on the CC cover.

Geez. They cover the boys up like their riding on the north pole. By the way, I hope she doesn't hit any potholes in those shorts. Youch!

That shortly after last years "T" cover, adds for Bloussant Breast Enlarging Pills started to appear in Bicycling & Mountain Bike Magazines?
Ah, but herein lies the difference:PseuZQ

Whereas "A" can serve a legitimate purpose in cycling, too much "T" is an endo waiting to happen.
