Rims for Track(2 posts)

Rims for Trackupandcomer
Jan 24, 2003 7:37 PM
I'm building up my first wheelset for track racing and was wondering what rims I should use. I was already planning on buying a Miche track groupo so the hubs are already chosen. I was so far considering Velocity Deep V's and Ambrosio Focus. Any thoughts. Also, if anyone has a used track wheelset they want to get rid of, let me know. dshylko@telusplanet.net

Good to see your getting on the track.

1) Personally I'd never ride anything but Dura-ace or possibly Campy hubs on the track. But if you like the Miche hubs go with them... they are a lot cheaper than the Shimano or Campy versions. Just keep in mind chances are you'll have the hubs for quite a while since theres no t much to wear hubs out on the track.
2) As for rims its really personal preference. If I get a new wheelset I think I'd get a fairly cheap deep V rim. This way you have a very sturdy wheel since the V section rims are stiffer and have a bit more aero profile. Keep in mind for any serious racing (outside of weeknight racing) as you climb the ladder in skill level you'll probably at some point want aero wheels.

Hope this helps,
Nick
