|I have been wearing some Smith Slider Mainlines and I really like them for road and dirt, as well as casual wear. They broke and I am going to use a $100 gift cert. at Colorado Cyclist (thanks mom) to buy a new pair of sunglasses. Does anyone have any opinions as to what the best pair of sunglasses around $100? I really liked the interchangeble lenses of the Sliders, but I didn't really change them all too much after I started heavily leaning toward road and away from dirt. What do you like, or dislike, and why?|

|Glasses are, I think, essential for road riding. They keep gunk from flying into your eyes and good lenses help you see better. Right now I'm using Rudy Project's Ekynox frames, which I got on sale some time ago at www.glorycycles.com. This time of year I've pretty much been keeping the transparent lenses in all the time. Means I can wear them on the commute home -- and I swear it makes me feel warmer.|

|Rudy Project Kerosene Premium with two pair of lenses (racing red and smoke black). The lens replacement deal they have is great. Send back the scratched lenses with $15 and they'll send you a new set. Super customer service.|

|I've been an Oakley user for over ten years. At $110-150, they are pricey but once you have the frame, replacement lenses are actually cheap ($30). I have M frames (both folding and non-folding) and about 5 different lenses. I find the fit to be great. The lenses are easy to switch and the choice of lenses is huge. Everyone carries them so you can easily find lenses or cases, etc.
Glasses are like shoes or saddles though. Everyone prefers something different. I'd try on some different brands and see what you like.

|I really liked wearing contact lenses and choosing appropriate sunglasses to wear with them, until my eyes got so bad that I couldn't read in contacts. Not a problem in an organized ride, but on my own I couldn't read a map.
I like my photogrey prescription glasses. While they're not as dark, and don't offer the side protection that a sleek set of wrap-around sunglasses do, they get around the problem of what to do with the sunglasses when the sun goes down. The only problem with sunglasses is when you take them off -- you lose protection against bugs, etc, and where the heck do you PUT 'em?

|Get either a pair of Oakley Racing Jackets or Oakley Half Jackets. The array is $170, but well worth it.
The Racing Jackets rock for mtn and road.
