Ebay - is this guy asking too much?Fez

I remember a post a few days back on what a fair price for a catalyst was.

especially since he's starting at $2800 and the reserve is not yet met. Friend of mine bought a similarly equipped 1 year old C40 on Ebay just before Christmas for $3100 and he was the sole bidder. This Litespeed, being 6 years old doesn't compare very favorably to that (realizing it might be apples and oranges.) People ask a lot, and their bikes don't sell. Do an Advanced Search and select "completed items" for Litespeeds and see what people are getting.
It should be discounted for being so ugly! nmSpunout

For a 6-year old bike? And from a guy with ZERO feedback, yet? BTW, does that stem look like funny, or do you suppose the guy set it up way past the max height line?
This guy' dreaming if he thinks he's going to get that kinda money! People go to eBay for a deal, not to overpay for an old bike from some guy with no selling history. I'm betting it will be reposted in a few weeks with a $1500 reserve. Even then, he's not likely to get any bids....

Hell yeah he's asking too much. Man, that threaded stem looks odd! Why is it so high? Do yourself a favor and avoid that one. Remember, patience is the most important aspect of ebay. Something better will always come along next week.

Wow I would sell mine for a lot less...nmafrican

He is making the common ebay mistake of asking full retail for a used, and in this case, old bike. Plus he has 0 feedback with rules out buying anything from him.
Never hurts to try, but he doesn't have any bids either...n/mBonked

I got a better catalyst. I am happy if I can get a 1000 out if it.

if someone would pay 2k for it, would you turn them down? Why not put it on ebay with a super high asking price and hope you get lucky? If not, you can always relist it with a lower starting bid. I'm not saying that I endorse or would do this myself, but, ethics aside, why not give it a shot? The one thing that always fascinates me about a free market is that its not what something is worth but rather what you can get someone to pay for it that sets its price. There were alot of people who bought stock a few years ago that was probably quite a bit more inflated than what this guy is trying to sell his Litespeed for!
Yeah, but...geeker

Depends on the listing fee and related policies. I haven't offered anything on eBay for a while. They used to, if an item went unsold, allow you to relist it for free. If eBay still does this, then initially offering an item at a high price might work. Probably not in this case, however - besides the high price, the seller has no feedback and the bike is rather weird.
No this guy is just crazyPhatMatt

This guy is smoking crack.

I am looking to get around $4000 for it.

I was planning to do a long distance ride, so I purchased the frame (new) in
2001, and had it built-up by a bike shop that same year. When I was unable
to commit to the ride, I stopped putting miles on the bike. Basically, I
used it on one short day ride (i.e. the 33 miles).

Thank you for your inquiry,
Can you say stolen?Kristin

Ask him for the serial number, see him run away.
Stolen or severely delusionalPhatMatt

That is for sure. I know I would not pay the starting bid for that bike. 4000 that is the new Colnago w/Record (new)

That's MORE than he would have paid for it!jtolleson

At least, it is several hundred more than I paid for a Catalyst with full Ultegra a year later. If he were the original owner, he wouldn't be so clueless. Definitely suspicious.

Though looking at the decals, he does have the model year right.
Should I email him and tell him that's my bike that was stolen?Kristin

I wonder what he would do?
