Repainting carbon frame.Alex-in-Evanston

I'm looking to repaint a Kestrel frame and could use a bit of direction. Does anybody know of a resource describing how to do this? I googled "repaining carbon frame" and came up empty.

Thanks,

Alex

Look for a paint shop that has experience doing carbon fibre. There are bike painting shops that do this kind of work as well as autobody shops, e.g. Corvette shops. I recently had my OCLV custom repainted by a painter at one of our major dealerships. He did a great job. The bike looks, in my opinion, better than the Trek factory jobs.

How much did it cost you (painting + stickers)? Just trying to get and idea.

TIA

I'm getting ready to paint a carbon fork.
All I did was wet sand it with some 400 grit
paper then finish with some 600 grit. The 400
cut right through decals and all. After that
spray a couple of coats of primer and wet sand
till you like it then paint.[Thanks to Dave & Tig
For info].

I had my Aegis repainted in a black w/ white decals ( very basic job, obviously) and it was about $300. It was a 150-200 more to do fades I believe. Hope that helps

CAD$450.00 for a three colour fade plus decals.

Thanks. Just making cost comparison vs. TREK in house painting cost.

Although it will not be baked on, Doug & Tig's cold painting process is also an alternative.

I used the folks at Koolbikes.com. Talk to Mary. She painted my Y-Foil in January 02. There is a picture on their web site. Mine is the yellow one with blue flames. I am very satisfied with the job and service.

www.joesbicyclepainting.com

I had them do my new alum frame and carbon fork. Turned out very nice. 5 working day turn around!
Not sure how to post pics here or I would show you, but check out this link where my bike is:
