2000 TdF Slide Show(25 posts)

2000 TdF Slide Showteoteoteo
Jan 19, 2003 5:38 PM
Well kids a few people asked so I thought I'd give a little Tdf Slideshow. Most of these are from my first trip in 2000. This summer will be number 4. These photo's were taken as a traveled with my friend Rob as we were both employees of bike.com. Not the site that exists now as part of Excel Sports but the one that started in Austin. Hope you enjoy.

We arrived in the Valley below Col d' Izoard content with the fact that we would be sleeping in a nice hotel in Briancon. But the French Police had other idea's as they closed the roads early--so we camped. It was Bastille day and the locals were baking fresh bread and selling the loaves to all the campers.

The Ullrich fans were out in force blocking the road so "Captain Texas" (my alter ego) hopped on the roof of out Renault Scenic Minivan and "surfed" through the crowd as my another friend whipped the Uber-Drunk Ullrich crowd into Captain Texas Chants.

Actually the Ullrich fans were very cool and told me how strong they thought Lance was/is. We had a beer or two and they kept walking off with my hat!

The race was upon us after one cold night in our tents. The tour will go over Izoard in 2003.

Podium girl on her way off the Mountain. Note the stern look from the man in the yellow jacket(handler). My friend's fluent french had her coming over to pose before her handler took control and sent her on....damn the luck.

It has been colder here on the East Coast (US) than it has been for two or three years. I spent a good deal of time this weekend watching the 2002 TdeF 10 hour DVD. I was reading recently in the New York Times about people in Paris getting light treatments to counteract seasonal affective disorder. TdeF pictures and videos are my cure for the extreme cold and short days (it was 24 degrees F. and windy when I rode today -- I only lasted for 29 miles). I, for one, will appreciate whatever you are willing to post.

Serioiusly. Candid shot of him pondering the upcoming stage. You can sense how private a moment it is. Almost voyeuristic if you know what I mean. Awesome shot.
I am referring to the close shot of only him BTW nmLazywriter

I met and chatted for a few moments with a photog from Bike.com at the Downers Criterium in August. Was that you? Excellent work by the way. I walked away from Downers with two nice shots--which is a little lower than my normal ratio for 5 rolls, but hey, I had fun panning. ;-)

What do you shot races with? Digital, slides or prints. Do you favor any particular brands for racing?
Not me but.....teoteoteo

Bike.com has lived two seperate lives. The original started in Austin in 1999 and I was a part of that. Lance was a major hsareholder and our spokesperson and the year I attended Letour bike.com was a sponsor of the USPS Squad.

In the technology letdown bike.com Austin went bust and the URL was sold to Excel Sports Boulder.

However, I am a freelance writer and you'll see my work in the current issue of VeloNews in the form or a retirement interview with Kevin Livingston.
