Looking through TdF Picsteoteoteo

Was writing a little story for a post below about memorable rides. I had quite a few good TdF pics so I thought I may post a few. Here Is Col d' Izoard in 2000. Later in the day I made an appearance beside Lance and Pantani on a deserted strech of road that can be seen on the WCP video.

Here I traded hats with Frenchie. It is a theme I repeated pretty often as everyone seems to want to wear my Captain Texas hat.

2001 I had a party for the fans on the Champs. I started organizing a few months before my trip and it was a blast. Here the Gendarme gives in to Captain Texas.

LA liked a banner that I had made by a friend that said "USPS makes the best French Whine"

It got pretty wild on the barricades.

Were you a part of the 2002 Texas party?ms

Last year (2002), my daughters and I were directly across from a huge contingent of Texans (or people pretending to be Texans) on the Champs Elysees about a block from the Arc de Triomphe. Were you a part of that group? It looked like they were having a good time.

I hosted another party on the Champs that had a huge turnout BUT we were much closer to the finish line. I picked that spot just based on shade and the fact that some of my friends were camped there at 7 AM. We were close to the Jumbo-tron.

We were near 200 strong at least and having fun. We saw Phil and Paul doing stuff for OLN so we started chanting for them, they gave in and visited with us for a while. Lance stopped again but did not get off the bike. With the press surrounding him he just kept pointing and pumping his fist telling the press guys to take picture of us.

Levi stopped and came over to hand out some goodies. All in all it was a success. I am hosting my third straight Champs-Elysee Party this year.

This year I will be in the Pyrenees for the Etape du Tour, but I will be back in the US before the TdeF gets to Paris. Last year, my daughters and I did not get to the Champs Elysees until 11:00 a.m. and I had to find a spot where they could be on the fence so that they could see the race (and the caravan -- the bigger attraction for a 10 year old and a 13 year old). Thus, we could not get close to the finish line. There is a saying that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day. Well, I think that all of us Americans who were on the Champs Elysees on the last day of the Tour de France last year were Texans -- even those of us who are anything but Texans the rest of the year.

I watched on one of the big climbs, I can't remember if it was 2001 or 2002, and these guys wearing football helmets were cheering and running along Lance. I saw it on OLN. I laughed so damn hard I about cried. The more Americans along the route the better!!! Great pics, I am GREEN with envy!!

I was there but not with football guys. They were higher up but we saw them on a Eurosport replay that night. They were funny but got pretty close to LA at the same time--could you imagine taking him down--YIKES.
