Input Needed on Spring Break TripUPrider

I am going to be taking off the last weekend of Feb. through the first weekend of March. I am looking for a place I can go and do some great Mt. Biking and Road Biking. Places I have considered are Moab, UT and Asheville NC. Moab is definitely at least a two day drive and I may be able to pull of NC in one. Any input on these two places or any other suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

That's still pretty early in the year to be crossing the Rockies, they sometimes have late snowstorms into late April and May. Some years it's no problem, and other years you could be talking road closures. If you go west watch the weather closely. Have a backup plan in place.
Food for thought.

A couple of years ago some of my college friends and I went to Blacksburg, Virginia, where Virginia Tech is and did some great riding. We did alot of the same climbs they used during the Tour Dupont. I would bet there has to be some noce Mountain Biking around there also. The town is also pretty nice.
Don't know where you're fromMel Erickson

but if you're looking for warm weather to ride in then Asheville wouldn't be my choice. The weather can be raw that time of year. It could also be pretty nice. Rain, snow, wind etc. are common. 30 degree temps not uncommon. Personally I'd head southwest. Moab is nice but can be crowded, especially during spring break. There's lots of space in the SW and you can find good road and MTB riding, along with pretty nice weather, depending on elevation.

to see you're from the UP of Michigan. Asheville might seem pretty nice in comparison! Still I'd head southwest.
It'll be spring in the UP about August :-) nmDave Hickey

Western Carolina is an excellent choice for a vacation. Cycling around Ashville is great. Branch out a little and include Boone (Lance loved it for a reason!) and the Blue Ridge Parkway for road riding. As for pure mountain biking fun, not much beats the Tsali trails in Almond, NC or the area around Brevard. Plenty of other activities around as well, rafting/kayaking and anything else outdoors. You'll love it!
