I ran across a bike for sale today, a Della Santa Gran Corsa. I never heard of it, but maybe I've led a sheltered life. It's my size and a clsssic looking bike. It looks and is equipped like 10~15 years ago. Any info on it? Any opinions?

Roland Della Santa was/is the reclusive Nevada builder who built Lemond's bikes for his early racing years. Buy it if it fits, it has a fine pedigree.

I am looking at one in my room right now. Columbus Genius tubing. I have nothing but praise for Roland and his work. What group? (has to be Campy)

How much? His frames are 1300-1500 now, and worth it to the right person.

Mine rides like it has suspension, but still jumps forward when you step on it. Handles very well and looks gorgeous in an understated way. I've never seen such delicate wasp waisted lugs on a bike. It makes my Paramount look a little industrial by comparison.,

Go for it!!!!!!!!! If it fits and the price is right don't miss out.. Even if it doesn't fit and the price is right get a bigger (smaller?)stem or whatever and ride it.

The bike I saw was probably 10~15 years old. Had Campy downtube shifters, brakes, hubs, rear der & cranks, 7-speed cogs, Dura-Ace front der and brake levers. The frame looked to be in good conditon, minor paint chips and no apparent dings.
Asking price is $900.00. I think I could live with the retro stuff. Whaddya think?

that's all that matters. it's worth (to you) what you pay for it. ask yourself: will i regret *not* picking it up next week, if i decide to buy it, and it's gone?

Take it for a ride, see how it fits, rides and handles. Make sure it tracks straight. Tires ok? etc.. See how motivated the seller is, maybe you can get it for less? 900 is not bad for that bike, I would try to get him down a bit if the market is soft in your area. If not, it goes by how the bike fits you and if you like it...

Good luck

I own a SLX Corsa Speciale built probably shortly after yours. The frame #1024. Most Della Santa frames built during this time had cinelli lugs, sloping fork crowns and campy drop outs. They are all silver brazed. A frame of this age you should check any rust. Other than that if you don't mind a heavier bike, it is a dream to ride. Enjoy.
