Any of you ever finish a frame?(2 posts)

Any of you ever finish a frame?Mike P

I have a frame I am filing and sanding before I have it finished. I have several files and have come up with a few tricks to working the welds without damaging the frame or removing to much of the weld. I am having trouble in some of the tight areas and I just wonder if there are any special files available or if there is some top secret method to follow. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike

I don't think you should be filing for finishing the welds. Use strips of abrasive of various grit to achieve a nice smooth look. Take the stip in two hands and see-saw back and forth over the weld. The tighter the area the thinner the strip you'll need to use. Also, don't use sandpaper, use an abrasive with a cloth backing (like emery cloth). This is what I did when I built an aluminum frame. Hope that helps.
