|I recently read an article on proper hydration. The articled stated that you should take your body weight divide it by two and that's the amount of water, onces, you should be consuming on a daily basis. Plus another 4 to 5 onces per 15 minutes of exercize daily. So at 170 lbs and roughly an hour per day, I should be consuming about 101 to 106 onces per day of water. I'm way short and will need to build up to being able to consume that much water.
How much water do you drink on a daily basis?

|In the summer I will often drink a large waterbottle every 10 miles. On Saturdays century where it never got above freezing I only drank 2 large bottles and a pint of milk.
However we do try to stay hydrated on a daily basis. If I don't get up at least once a night to empty my bladder I know I haven't been drinking enough during the day.

|On one of the rides I did, from Mission Hills to Oceanside
-89 miles (on my onespeed), I drank less than one bottle of
water; and that was more to rinse my mouth out. I was
fine. I generally dont drink a lot of water, but that
small amount of consumption was extremely small even for
Torrey Pines Road was hell on a fixed gear.

|I try to drink 10 oz of water every hour at work then drink one or two full glasses(20 oz each) later that night. I drink on large bottle per hour while riding regardless of effort. I probably drink about 200 oz of water per day, but I am different in that I had a kidney removed about 10 years ago, and I really need to keep it flushed out. I pee once a night, and about every two hours during the day.
It may be overkill, but I can't take chances.

|While riding, I drink about one 24 oz. bottle/ hour. During the course of a day, I probably drink at least as much as the recommended guidelines you mentioned. I have increased my fluid intake greatly over the past few years since getting a kidney stone. The main cause of kidney stones is not drinking enough, and that's probably why I developed one. So I drink a whole lot now because I sure don't want to go through that again. Supposedly the pain associated with passing a kidney stone is greater than childbirth or gunshot wounds. I don't know about that, but it sure hurt like hell.|

|I've gotten into the habit of drinking lots of water. With breakfast, I have a 24oz cup of water. I drink at least one, usually two, 17oz water bottles during the workday. Another 24oz with dinner. Add a few ounces on for lunch or while working out, plus a drink before bed. Its' just a habit. If I don't drink that amount, I wake up in the middle of the night with a nasty case of drymouth.
I rarely drink soft drinks - they are soooooo bad for you. My wife and I did a smart thing. We have bottled water delivered to our house monthly. It's in a dispenser in our kitchen. It runs room temp or cold water. The water is convenient when thirsty. The convenience has increase the entire family's intake of water (vs. pop and juices)
The way it works for me:
1. It may be dumb, but I view each glass of water as benefitting my health. "I drink health"
2. I try to always have a bottle of water in front of me. If its' there, I drink it.
3. Yep...I spend A LOT of time in the bathroom.
A physiologist friend of mine said that it takes your body 3-4 weeks to get used to increased water intake. "used to" means that you are not in the bathroom all the time. He claims that the average American walks around significantly dehydrated becuase of the caffeinated beverages we drink.
Since I weigh just north of 190lbs (down to 180lbs by March) I should be drinking 95+ ounces per day. I guess I'm on target.

|3 - 4 liters a day, more in the summer when it get hot. Your body adapts well to the increase after a week or tow of the multi-pee breaks.
