Has anyone painted their own bike. What kind of paint did you use? Clearcoat? Procedures? What kind of spray gun (HVLP?), compressor, etc. How about fading colors?

Any info would be helpful. I really want to do everything myself!!

Thanks....Dan

I've painted quite a few frames using automotive type paints. Just follow the prodedures detailed for the materials.

My paint of choice is PPG Deltron base/clear system and epoxy primer. Sprays out very well and is super durable. You don't need HVLP, just a regular spray gun.

My method includes sandblasting the frame (steel only), epoxy primer, base coat, one coat clear, sand w/600 and apply decals, and lastly more clear.

Good luck.
