I am currently building the road-bike of my life (actually a cyclocrosser but for road use!) - and I am very excited about it!
It is totally custom made for me - and that can be a bad thing in some ways! The paintjob kills me - because I don't know what colours or design I should choose ...! The possibilities are unlimited! I have a great painter and one of Europes best airbrushers finishing my bike - I can have what I want. Money is no issue either they do it for free because it has to go to a bike show first!
I am collection pictures online now for weeks and I am about to lose it! Because every day there is a new dream bike!
I went from all black to psychedellic Landshark-like paintjobs - and the day after I want it all grey ... !

Do you guys have any pics or drawings on your computer that you would consider unusual or that you always wanted to have on your dream bike ...?
Maybe just a combination of colours that nobody had the nerve to try out before??

I post a picture from the Interbike 2002 of a Sycip bike that I love! That is pretty much my taste ... but maybe that can change!?

Show me the light ...!

how bout you paint it rainbow. instead of worrying about what color your frigging bike is get off you a** and ride. my bike is a peice of sh** but it works and fits. anything else is secondary and a want not a need. truth be told i could rip youe legs off on my sh**y clucker as long as my crank doesn't fall off, thats the only downside. it may not be the flashyest thing on the block bt theres nothing but vengence inside that is sething waiting to tear your legs off. heres a consept instead of worrying about what your bike color is going to be ride your bike into a head wind and see how long you last. not as long as me.
Good morning - you are braindead!phatlizard

Is that the kind of bs-answer I have to expect on this board?
I sure don't think so because there is only nice people in SS or CX on here ....
Mister Plastic Side Down - I work in the bike business and I own 5 bikes already I sure don't need a jerk on speed telling me that I have to get my butt up and ride!
Not your bike is trash just your attitude!

the custom paint boat. after changing my mind a lot I came to a light grey with white writting. I was going to go without writting because I dont want to advertise if I dont have to but the font was nice. Dont try to pack to much into one paint job. But then again I always thought a "where's waldo" like job might be nice. I also dont like fades but I've seen simply a different color chainstay that looked nice. My final choices were- matte or gloss grey, black, or plain white. Very conservative in the end but rare. Youre getting custom geomety right? And you have lots of bikes so you know what you want so I wont bother telling you to make sure. I added a cm to the headtube to make up for spacers.

and how does your post have ANYTHING to do with his question? it wasn't about riding remember? he's being offered a free rig for a bike show you freakin' moron.

translation of your post:

"i'm a jacka$$, blah, blah, blah, let me show you how lame i am, blah, blah, blah, i'm better then you, blah, blah, blah, i'm jealous because my daddy's on welfare and i can't afford a new ride, blah, blah, blah, i'm under the illusion that anyone that can afford a decent bike must be yuppie scum, blah, blah, p.s. i'm only 16 years old, blah, blah."

I'd paint it white, no blue, no, go with white. A decal with the name of the manufacturer would look good on the downtube, and if they have a logo, a decal of that on the headtube would be nice. Or hey, just let Europe's best airbrusher pick the scheme. You know like when you go into a good restaurant and just tell the chef to make you whatever he wants. I had the best bowl of macaroni & cheese of my life doing just that. I'm sure the bike will come out as well.

She is usually doing Harley-Davidson-Fuel-Tanks!
Don't want to end up with Xenia the Warrior (or what ever you call her) on my seattube!!! ;)

Seems like most people fancy solid colour white or grey ... makes me think for sure ... !

'aw cmon, a pirate ship would look really cool on the top tube surrounded by skulls and confederate flags.

don't do pearl white, as that's what my new frame is getting shot with right now.

one of the most beautiful bikes i have ever seem had super glossy pearl white with i think maroon panels.

The other, a steel pinarello, was this very polished colour, with a clear black layer and then a clear topcoat. it caught your eye right away, if you like the shiny polished look.

With either i suggest either some paneling, or a picture or collage covering the front half of the bike, and maybe a bit on the seattube. something really colourful, like flowers or a landscape or something.

If your bike is Ti, then the coolest "paint" job I've ever seen might work for you. It was a Seven I believe, and the front half of it was brushed Ti and the back half was polished Ti. No paint, but since the two were faded (the logo was etched in or something) it was pure class and simply beautiful. I'm not an expert on what a naked frame looks like, but if whatever material it's gonna be made out of has that finish available, I'd seriously consider it. Also, I would take a look at Fondriest and Pegoretti for inspiration. www.fondriest-usa.com and www.pegoretticicli.com. If there's anything inspiring to you (you mentioned Xena, but if there was something that you would really find cool), have that on your seat tube. Or, better yet, on the top tube right near the head tube so you see it a lot. I've known a few guys to put stickers of women on their stems...

Whatever you do, I would stray from too many colors and small things. It's best if they actually contrast strongly. Some of the Landshark designs you mention are beautiful, but others have too much going on w/o being able to distinguish it.

If your looking for a colour that's timeless, take a look at the bikes posted at the retro/classic forum on this site. If the 'old' colours appeal to you, you can bet the appeal will last.

The nicest I've seen is the Merckx that has been posted a few times (see pic). The pearly white really brings out the details in the frame, would be nice for a custom build like yours.

Good luck with your choice, don't spent to many sleepless nights!

With root beer brown paint and no decals on the fork or seat stays on my Kelly CX. In some of the areas i ride in i dont like to draw attention to my self and leave the bike dirty on purpose.

I've always like the look of bikes that had a mix of matte and high gloss paint. Matte black with gloss black lettering and accents with just a few dark grey accents in both matte and gloss. Now that would be a hard looking bike.
I was going to have CycleArt do a woodgrain....Stinky Hippie

....on my stainless lugged frame. They quoted me 900 bucks for the wood grain paint, I believe. Pick a piece of wood you realy like and have someone emulate it.

I would suggest either "ivory" or "antique gold" shiny pearl paintjob with the ultimate top tube design - wait for it...
