What monitors are good these days? I had a Polar that was very accurate and worked well, no bells and whistles, but I lost it the other day. Suggestions? I don't want to spend that much for it.

just my opinion but you cant beat polar I've been using them for years
Its an older model but really does everthing you need performance bike has the Polar protrainer for $89.99 thats a hard deal to bet. Don't know if you are a fan of Ebay but prices on the S710 are way down under $170.00

another thought but price is way up there is powertap. another great training tool.

Good Luck.

If your training for racing then I would get something like a polar s710or810 with the power meter...if you are just training for fitness than a polar a3or5 would work pretty well. I just got an s710 and it is pretty sweet, ive also used the A5 and it was very reliable and worked great. Ive never used anything but polar so I dont know about any of the other monitors..but im sure someone will post something.
good luck
If you are price sensitive, Polar is not the only watchjwhite480

while I use a polar, my wife decided that she wanted to start riding using a heartrate monitor. We went to Performance Bike Shops and she bought a no frills monitor that seems to be working well for her (over the last 6 mos) for less than $30.
