|Anybody do a new years night ride.I'm planning on leaving at the stroke of midnight for a quick 10 mile ride on a nearby local bike trail.I've never done this before so I was wondering if anybody else has or any other rides on Newyears.|

|Drunks kill people on new years.... I would leave the bike at home... Go on a ride on 8am the next morning and you will really appreciate the lack of traffic. The other time I love to ride is during the super bowl, when traffic is mellow as well. The best no traffic day I have ever experienced was in Vancouver Canada, when the Canadians played the US for the gold medal in hockey. The streets were so empty is was strange. I don't mean to sound like I am paranoid of cars, because I am not, but I don't think new years eve is the best time to ride.|

|I would agree with you about doing a road ride, but he said a nearby trail, so I take that to mean he is MTBing, which is a fine idea to me. If he is, he should simply consider driving to the trailhead and riding from there.
Have fun, be safe.

|...I will be on a closed trail so no worries of traffic.I did think about the road but I considered the traffic and thought otherwise.I won't be more than 5 miles from home at any point so I think it will be fairly safe.I live about 0.25 miles from the trail so I'll be alright getting there.|| |
