Lance's STI Levers...........the truth(15 posts)

Lance's STI Levers...........the truthoui19

First off I can't reveal the source, but in Cajun country we just had this lever in our hands while Sir Lances bike was beingn wind tunnel tested. The length is due to Lances high lever position on bars.......thus the longer shifter to accomadate easier shifting from the drops........now the truth in the amount of speeds is 12 speed!!!!!!!!!! Lance is also testing Shimano direct drive which I will leave at that for now! One other note, not to do with the shifters, why has TREK purchased TWO Giant compact CARBON frames from me?????????? Hummmmmmmmm will Lance be on a Carbon Compact frame at the Tour?????????

everybody else is doing it. Trek, which makes all types of bicycles, has to offer at least one frame with this geometry.
weren't they the first?laffeaux

I think that the Bontrager Road Lite was the first compact frame, no? Bontrager is a Trek company and the last two years of Bontrager's frame production was under the Trek unbrella, making the '96 and '97 Road Lites frames compact frames from Trek. They were early in on the concept.

Not to mention that Klein (another division of Trek) is producing compact frames already.

Sounds like they offer something different every few years so everybody gotta upgrade to the latest and the greatest.
I think it has something to do with lugless constructionniteschaos

Trek is enterinally lugged, whereas the Giant in Monocoque
oclv internally lugged?... i had no idea (nm)Frith

The Carbon compacts at Trek were in devo long before they bought any Giants. The two events were not related other than checking out what the other guy is doing. Giant has bought more than one Trek OCLV in their day for testing. The early response from LA was that the compact frame was something that was not interesting to him--but perhaps Heras and others would enjoy. This meeting occured at least a month before wind tunnel stuff so who know what happened since.

As for the shifters I have contradictory information. That they are 10 speed. This comes from mutiple sources including some within Armstrong's camp and friends of the man. The rear der is sculpted is said to look much like an XO der.

I passed LA going opposite directions Monday while he riding with a mutual friend. I guess I missed the chance to get the definitive answer.
You mean you didn't tackle him!?!fracisco

What good a spy are you?

I have to say that it would be pretty cool to just be out riding around and seeing Lance. I'm happy just seeing my friends that Cat 1/2's when I'm out spinning around.

I stand corrected..........10 speed as I just witnessed today. The rest of what you posted is on the money! Anymore LA updates lets keep the rest of the world posted........or maybe they can wait.
12 speeds? That's huge. How thin is the chain, tho. nmSintesi

Im not trying to be offensive or hostile, but do you own a bike shop, is that how trek bought two giants from you. And how did you know they were from trek, they just told you?

No comment is ever taken hostile.......we are cyclist not hockey players, well some are. Anyway, I know they were from Trek seeing how the frames were paid for with a Trek corporate check followed by a 1099 form. Also see previuos person response.......I stand corrected LA has 10 speed.
