forced commute on bike(4 posts)

forced commute on bikebigrider

I have had some serious car issues the last week or so and finally had one good option for getting to work, bicycling.

I have ridden to work before but never could get in the routine. So I started the week out with an 11 mile each way commute with a 13 mile lunch ride.

Some observations:
I love the morning ride after I am on the bike.
I love the evening ride after I am on the bike.
Dressing for cold weather takes me FOREVER.
My HID Storm light makes people aware of your presence when you flash it on them.
The 20 degree temps require two pairs of wool gloves.
I don't care how fast I am going when I am going to work.
I care how fast I am going when I am coming home.
Pack your gear before you go to bed.

This is so true. Once you're on the bike it's the best feeling in the world. Convincing yourself to do it can be tough.

I have been in a funk as of late, partially because it has not only been unusually cold, it has been windy, and it has been rainy. Cold I can handle. Wind, cold, and rain together is something different. I know, I'm wussing out. I WILL start commuting agin on bike, beginning next year. I promise. ( I have only 3 days left to work this week and 2 of them it would be impossible to ride the bike, and I have off all next week.) You are right; once you are on the bike, it's great. Getting there is another story!
