I dont even have lights...just go by the street lights..no one is out..can take a whole lane..ride on roads that before were a traffic nightmare...no car fumes to smell..no noises
Were you riding on your green tires? ( nm )superdog

It's not hard finding well-lit streets for night riding without a headlight, but you need a tail-light unless you want to get run over sometime. A headlight is a good idea even if the roads seem well lit, because it's easy to hit obstacles like rocks, potholes and branches while riding at night -- even with a lighting system. If you don't have a lot of bucks to sink into a lighting system, check out the Cygolites. I got a 6/10/16 W rechargeable system for only $60 and it works great. Vistalite makes great tail-lights for reasonable prices.

yup, if you're riding pre-dawn or at night, and no matter how safe if seems, your *ss better be lit.

I agree, riding at night is great, but without lights you are asking for trouble. If you think riding on well-lit streets is good, think again. The more street lights there are, the less you will be seen, especially if the lights are the sodium vapor kind that are orange in color. Colors wash out, and unlit objects tend to disappear into the background. Motion is the only clue they have that you are there, but if you are holding your line a along on the same plane, visible motion is minimal. You won't be seen.

I guarantee more drivers will see you with a small red tail light on an unlit road than will ever see you with no light on a well-lit road.

I agree, night riding is great, but you MUST get a light so that YOU can be seen. Living in SE PA in Lancaster Co. we have many plain sect folks whose main transportation is a bicycle. Most of them at least have rear blinkers. Even with being aware of the large number of riders at night, it still scares me when driving and seeing some of these folks out at night without a headlight, and even the occasional one with no blinky light in the back either.
Going out without a light is just plain stupid.

the green tires I'm saving for the ss which hasnt arrived yet..It'll be at least another month or two before I get up the cash to pay for it and get to Ireland to pick it up(it costs almost as much as shipping it and I might as well see my family)..then I'll post picks and brag, you'll all be jealous....getting lights soon, till then I'll wear a helmet instead.
