Are you taking a cycling vacation this winter?Thorman

The winter weather has hit Ohio a little earlier than usual this year and I'm thinking I may need to take a vacation sometime in January or February to keep from going mad on my trainer. Are you going to take a cycling vacation this winter? If so, where are you going?

I heartily recommend my town, Santa Barbara. It can be rainy in January and February, but even then it is still decent riding. Bring clothing suitable for 50's-60's. Bring your lowest geared cassette.

Sunny and 70s here most of the time. SoCal. I'll likely be in your neck of the woods for the Mothballs crit.

Riding from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas with a couple of my bicyle touring buddies. We're traveling light and fast and trying to average about 90 miles a day. More like a randonee than your typical bike tour, I guess.

Ambitious. Careful out there, those drivers in huge trucks doing 80+ really bother me. You taking the best highways you can find or you doing it off the beaten path?

Good luck.

I've often considered bringing my bike on trips to Baja. However, I've never had the nerve to ride in Baja except on organized rides with closed roads or at least traffic restrictions. The scenery is magnificent, but the roads and the drivers can be a real challenge. Be careful and please post a ride report when you're done.

No friends, I'll be heading to beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming for some hard core skiing. At least I'm using my legs right?

We've just got to get away from the cold and rain of Southern Japan. We're doing a do it yourself tour of New Zealand's South Island.

I hope you'll find somewhere for fun in the sun yourself!

Ride on!
Are you taking the bike? Do you know where you'll ride yet?Kristin

I have a friend in Christchurch. I don't know him super well--online acquantance with a couple of common interests. Anyway, if you are in need of resources, I could probably get a couple for you...i.e. a decent local bike shop...some route maps, etc. Or I probably get you his MSN ID and you could get the 411 straight from him.
Thanks for the offer, but!GeoCyclist

We are staying with a friend near Nelson, and he has us hooked up with a LBS. We thought about taking our tandem, but too short a holiday and we scored a deal on getting a bike locally. The riding in the North Island wine district is pretty good for road. The heli mountian biking trips look pretty interesting also, but my wife isn't into screaming down hill adventures. I'll put up a post when we get back

Cheers!
