Guess which celebrity I just dropped on my climb. The Human G-Nome
Dec 7, 2002 3:57 PM
There were four of us all riding through Sausalito before the last climb onto the Golden Gate Bridge. Mr.Blue Jacket, Ms.Older-Steel-Colnago, and Mr.Very-Worn-In U.S. Postie Jersey. The rest of us passed Mr.Postie on the flats, a husky guy on a really nice bike, but he seemed to take that as a challenge. He picked up his pace and then started to pull. We got to the climb and he was the first out of the shoot, but after the first big grade, he was already starting to fade some. The rest of us caught him and then we were gone. We slowed again on the bridge and he had managed to catch up and take my wheel. A right turn off the bridge and through the tunnel and then he was right along side me with a "how are you doing today?" "fine, and you." "it's a beautiful day.. (yada, yada)." It didn't dawn on me who had just struck up a conversation with me for a few moments. When I realized who it was, I didn't want to say "Hey! You're so-and-so." So I just said, "Hey, how do you like your Calfee?" He said he just loved it of course, but his computer was giving him problems and wouldn't register so he had to pull over to try to fix it. I just said "have a nice ride!" and imagined I'd probably see him again out theres some day.

Ok, care to guess the name of our mystery Celebrity?

the clues: Worn out U.S. Postie jersey. Husky guy. Very expensive Calfee. Good natured.

nice pic. that's the one alright. it's funny, because a buddy of mine who works for KRON just met him and hung out with him for the first time a few weeks ago. i'm a graphic designer and my buddy gave him one of my postcards to go see a comedy improv show that he stars in.

I think he is the hairiest man alive. He would probably dropped you on the hill if his wool wasn't slowing him down.

wow, you'd think i would have noticed that. i really wasn't paying that much attention to him until i figured out who he was and then i was just thinking "wow, i'm talking bicycles with Robin Williams." perhaps if he was shooting Mrs.Doubtfire 2, he had his legs shaved.

otherwise, you're right. all that hair was an unfair handicap. i demand a rematch.

sure, laugh now. but she was a tough broad. if she was riding one of those U2 aluminum thingy-magigys instead of her steel frame, she would have had me.
