|then you can't afford it, the saying goes. Those with the cash would say yes and those without will say no. From a completely functional standpoint, the answer is definitely no.
Virtually every brand offers frames that are 2-3 times more expensive than a completely functional lower level frame. The biggest difference is most often the frame weight. Occasionally the high level frame may offer an improvement in vibration absorption with the use of carbon stays or full carbon construction. You pay a lot of money to save one pound of frame weight that's no different than a pound of body weight.
Aluminum frames are the stiffest riding frames in general. Larger and heavier riders are best suited for these stiff frames. I warn riders weighing 140 and below to avoid them. I've owned several and learned my lesson. Any material can be harsh riding though. I've also owned a Litespeed Ultimate Ti frame that was even more harsh than most of the Al frames that I've owned.
