|New Bicycle Movie -- Beijing Bicycle||KenS|

|I found this movie for rent at my local Blockbuster. It is the story of a country boy who comes to the city and finds a job he enjoys, bicycle messenger. He must pay for his bike from his initial earnings, and, when he almost has it paid off, the main story begins. The reviews of the movie on Amazon make it sound like a completely depressing flick, but I disagree. It is an engrossing character study of two boys, neither of which is a loveable character, and their struggle for control over a bike. Also there is a theme of obsession with bikes, with which (some) RBR people can empathize. This one is definitely worthwhile to rent. |
(next Friday poll: How many people on this list are named "Ken"?)

|I thought it was very good. It posited the question "just
how far would you go to keep your bike if it was threatened?"
The ending I thought was pretty gripping because the
protagonist held true to his convictions yet at what cost?
He wasn't a naive country boy any more but he definetely
wasn't the guys who kept trying to abscond with the bike.
His reputation was at stake and he nearly lost everything
yet held true to what his goal was. The cost is what some
people think is depressing. I thought he was pretty
defiant at the end and got what he wanted, sort of.
