Last night, as I was sitting on the couch...noveread

Last night, as I was lying on the couch, allowing my dinner of 4 chicken tacos to digest, it got me to thinking about all that salsa I had dumped on my tacos. In two nights I have essentially polished off the entire jar of Newmans's Salsa. Is there actually and nutritional benefits to salsa other than simply being fat-free?

It was a good off-season meal. It was big, but I put plenty of salad and onions on them and that chicken was oh-so yummy! I felt pretty good about myself afterwards, except for the fact that I ate four of them! :) The one reason I love the winter is I can eat without feeling guilty! Good thing I am going for the first winter ride tonight. Temp is supposed to be in the low 30s, but at least the rain/snow chance has been reduced dramatically! Now where are those cookies...

Fresh salsa is nothing but veggies. Mass produced stuff will add various preservatives, emulsifiers, and coloring, etc. Read the nutritional label on the jar. Eat colorful food and as close to the source (fewer processes) as possible.

Ride to eat, eat to live, live to ride!

Got that right! The store boughts also add corn starch and other stuff.

I prefer to make my own regular salsa. I also make this great pineapple salsa that's really good with fish filets. Hot hot hot!

I love salsa with chips, but tend to prefer hot sauce on food. Try Cholula Hot Sauce (the one with the wooden top). It has great flavor (particularly on Mexican food) and is not overly hot. I also like 89 cent Crystals Hot Sauce sometimes on boneless pork chops.

Mmm, I'm getting hungry...

are supposed to be great at helping to prevent cancer. You should learn to make your own to avoid preservatives plus homemade tastes much better than store bought. You can use a variety of peppers for a differnet taste including habanero's for the adventerous. My wife was born in Mexico and I get the benefit of many authentic Mexican meals including fresh made salsa with many meals. Now there's an idea for a post and thread: Your favorite salsa recipe!
I agree, I'm in. I've got two. nmNo_sprint

where as the salsa will save your life. Eat more fruits and veggies and less chicken and tacos.

Funny that you are questioning the healthier of the foods you ate last night and not of the really junky stuff.
