Choosing a bike: Ketrel, Jamis, Pinerello, Trek? Used/New?rbobbyz

I a mountain biker looking for a road bike. Would like to use for triathalons and road training, but so many brand names to select from. For now I have a $1500.00 budget but would like to choose a bike I can build up little by little down the road. Of all these brands to choose from what are the best to least?: Trek, Cannondale, Klein, Ketrel, Pinerrello, Specialized, Giant, Fuji, Jamis?

What is a better frame: steel, aluminum, titanium or Carbon Fiber?

I was going to buy a used 2001 Kestrel Talon for $1200.00. Good shape. Look pedals. Front derailer - 105, Ultegra cranks, Dura Ace rear derailer, with the basic rims. Did I pass up a good deal?
What size frame do you take?irregardless

If you take a 56 in a Kestrel, let me know. I know a good deal on a new 200SCi with Ultegra.

Forget about brand and go for fit. Used is great provided you can, inspect it, get on it and try it for fit and ride it to see how the quality of ride is. PLus make sure evrything is in good condition and not worn out. If it doesn't fit you correctly, your not going to be happy. Same goes for the quality of ride depending upon what the tubes are made of, size of tubes and how the frame is constructed. You will prefer one material over the other. LoL.
Is the used 2001 Ketrel Talon a good deal for $1200?rbobbyz
