Seattle cyclists - Ballard Bridge?(5 posts)

Seattle cyclists - Ballard Bridge?gtx

I rode over this for the first time this weekend--on the narrow pathway. Seemed pretty sketchy. Do they even intend for cyclists to use this? Is there a better way to get to the Magnolia loop from Ballard? Do you just use the Fremont bridge and cut back? Thanks!

Go south over the fremont bridge and take a right on nickerson, follow that till the road splits up by 15th and go right, ride on 15th for like a block and then go right on dravis. The ballard bridge sucks, I stay off it as much as I can and never, ever ride on 15th towards town unless I have to.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, that sounds better. Crossing 15th still sounds like a bit of a challenge.

You don't have to cross 15th, you go under it, as long as you go right towards downtown when nickerson splits.
You can also cut through the ballard locks, but those crazy park people will cut off your nads if you don't walk your bike through there.
It's a short walk across the LocksB2

Leary Way is pretty nasty though if you want to make a loop out of it and go back via Freemont Bridge from Shilshoe area.

I work on the west side of Lake Union and ride over to Magnolia & Shilshoe fairly often on extended lunch hour. Although you have to walk across the locks themselves, I much prefer it to other options.
