I am deciding where I want to locate after I get out of Grad school and have heard Charlotte is a nice town that is really growing? Just wonering what the road riding is like around there, as well as just the overall vibe of the city. Thanks in advance.

I lived there for about 10 years after I graduated college. I moved away about 4 years ago. Charlotte is a nice town - good climate, good economy, lower cost of living than many other big cities...

I can't say I miss it very much, though. It's quite a convervative city, smack in the middle of the Bible belt with an economy highly dependent upon banking - not that there's anything wrong with that, but it does influnce things quite a bit. Lots of suits - very easy to feel uncomfortable going out to dinner after a bike ride. If you're looking to live the 'surburban life' - a family, kids, big house and no stress - Charlotte is probably a great choice. If you're looking for something progressive, vibrant and fun - you may want to look elsewhere.

Of course, it may have changed a lot in the time I've been gone, but I doubt it..

I didn't do any road riding while I lived there - I was just getting into mountain biking when I left. The terrain would be great for it, though. There were several good bike shops in town, and an active mountain biking community.

I like living in Greensboro NC. about 90 NE of Charlotte with great riding both on and off road. We also have one of the best shops in the country: I don;t work there but do ride for their team.
