| Which is it? Do recumbent riders have to grow beards or do | bill Nov 12, 2002 7:32 AM | | beard wearers have to ride recumbents? I'm thinking that it's the former, because I suppose that I have seen beard wearers riding other than on recumbents (not many, but I have), but I don't recall seeing any recumbent riders without beards. Maybe, though, the bearded guys actually DO have recumbents and that were in the shop, or they were taking a day off, or something.
Can anyone explain this phenomenon to me? Any insight? |

2) methinks you need some sleep, bill.

| drag | trekkie1 Nov 12, 2002 8:00 AM | | Since bents have less air drag, they can afford (the extra drag) to wear beards.
Wearing beards and riding bents are both non-mainstream, possibly analogous in their desire to be different. They probably also drive a 1968 Volkswagen bus with flowers painted on the side, too. |
| not altogether true | Rode Warrior Nov 12, 2002 8:12 AM | | Actually, the rider's posture dictates that a beard is a benefit on a 'bent. You see on a regular bike, the rider's forehead leads, and there isn't as much windchill on the rider's throat. However, on a 'bent, the rider leans back, thus putting the throat more in the wind. The beard helps keep the rider's throat warm. Besides, the chicks dig it (so I hear).

| So, are you saying........... | Dave Hickey Nov 12, 2002 8:26 AM | | Since the forehead leads on a road bike, a rider with the Yul Brynner type dome(Spirito?)is faster? Maybe we can get Spirito in the Texas A+M wind tunnel and do some aero testing:-) |

| I suspect... | ClydeTri Nov 12, 2002 8:25 AM | | I suspect it has to do with the personalities of both groups..people who dont like to be "normal" or average. |
| There is a very cute lady | Winona Rider Nov 12, 2002 8:36 AM | | that ride a bent in Rads with me.
She doesn't appear to have a beard, least not as far as I have noticed.
And actually, feet lead on a bent - so ought they not to have hairy feet? |
