|I've heard stories that Fred was a grouchy cyclist who didn't wear
the right clothes, dressed like a complete dork but could out-ride
just about everyone in his club. But I think the etymology of the
term "Fred" would be interesting.

|It's just that no one will admit it! ;-) If you look closely at even some cat 1 super-talents, there's a speck of poser showing. Everyone has a little thread or two of Fredness showing as well. It simply means we're all human!
Anyone who rides any bike responsibly is cool in my book. Anyone who goes around making us all look bad due to irresponsible riding will be looked down upon, no matter if they are a racing pro blasting through lights or a Mexican dishwasher commuting up the wrong side of the road. This isn't a morality only club... I'm just tired of some riders ruining it for others. The eliteness types just make fools of themselves. Let 'em...
(stepping of my soap box now)

|Normally have high white cotten socks. Sometimes is a little league coach goin' on a bike ride.
But is unfortunate that our sport has this negative edge to it. I have to admit that the asshole factor in our sport is pretty high.
A good bike rider can be a goof in a another sport, but isnt called names...

|I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet that the term Fred was coined in honor of the wacky, deliriously un-hip, Gleason-esque patriarch of that Modern Stone Age Fam-i-ly.|| |
